    Hey guys,

I found out, that the neu D700 GPU is only a rename from Apple for the W9000 from AMD.

So I was looking for these GPU on the internet. Here the price:

    2x W7000 (D300) = 2x 650€
    2x W8000 (D500) = 2x 1150€
    2x W9000 (D700) = 2x 2800€

But I only need to pay 1000€ more for D700 instead of D300.

So how is this possible? Did I make a huge mistake? Because I cant explain this to me.

Search the forum for existing discussions. It's been discussed over and over again.

Yeah, basically because the price isn't driven to cost of materials but is a marketing and software development price. Apple has their own gig here so can charge what they want.

Which is what I said from the beginning but that didn't stop people from bleating how the computer will cost the GDP of an African nation.

As others have said: Check other threads. The D700 is probably an underclocked W9000, and the W9000 is not that much different than a 7970 Gigahertz Edition (~$300 card). The W9000 just has ECC (which the D700 may not) and some driver optimizations that make it better for certain tasks.

That said, if this thing does have even half performance advantages of the W9000 over the 7970 in Windows, it'll be a huge selling point. That remains to be seen though.

In OS X, there may not be a lot of difference between two 7970 and Two D700--if that's the case, the $1000 upgrade over the D300 is overpriced.

My bad, 7970 prices have risen dramatically in the last few months since I priced this out. Not bad longevity for a 2 year old card!

Litecoin miners. There will be an influx on the used market soon enough.

These 'minable' virtual currencies are hilarious. It's like someone sat down and said "How can I trick users into wasting as much compute power and electricity as possible?"

    Litecoin hasn't discovered/created ASICs yet?

No wonder Radeons are so expensive!

Those with the knowledge to build them are running them then selling them after they are no longer useful. People without that knowledge are currently able to use Radeons efficiently.
