Probably because the Euro has lost 20% of it's value to the dollar in the last year.

Also, I think Apple is "punishing" EU for trying to regulate what can be in their phones and needing open app store, etc

The SIM tray is expensive ...

It's only US$1,095 for the iPhone 14 Pro dual-SIM version in Hong Kong.

The real reason is Euro is declining in value. And all those EU consumer protection laws don't come for free.
