My iPhone 4 seems to be just as scratch resistant or more than previous models. Not one scratch yet and it's had a couple.. incidents where I thought for sure it would have been.

The iPhone 4 is definitely not as scratch resistant as previous models.

I even retract my previous snarky, "You're holding it wrong" statement.

Here's my story:

I got my iPhone 4 on release date (actually, the day before). I've had no issues with scratching it till today. My aunt came over to check it out yesterday (Saturday) because she wanted to see it before buying one, but she was worried about not having a screen protector like she's had on her HTC Touch Diamond. I told her not to worry, since it's glass, not plastic, and I've owned every iPhone since its release without a screen protector and it's been just fine. I ran my basically non-existent fingernails over the screen to show her what I meant.

Now I've done this test with EVERY iPhone - the 2G, 3G, and 3GS. I EXPECTED the iPhone 4 to fare the same. But no! I made three or four long thin scratches down the screen, and I'm not especially happy about it. I can feel them with my nail. So, whether it's the oleophobic coating or the glass itself that got hurt, something gave...

So there, if you think the iPhone 4 is as scratch resistant as previous models, I can tell you it's certainly not. :(

maybe a hard layer of human oil secretion compacted on the screen was disturbed by your tough human nail?

That sounds... wrong.

But no my screen was super clean at the time. Just one of those things, I guess.

*sigh*

Yeah, its a shame... Scratches have been my only complaint of this phone, it does scratch quite easy.

Went by an AT&T store yesterday to pick up an Incipio Silicrylic for my 4. There demo 4's were scratched to hell. Looks like they had been put through some tests by customers. One had some deep gauges.

Maybe white is best then?

Um... . well... you NEED to post pictures of these horror stories .

Post a pic of your girly non-existant fingernails and show us a pic of the scratches..
and the OP,.. . post a PIC FOR CRYING OUT LOUD !!

You can't just go along spreading these lies

Had mine 3+ weeks now. Had a Griffin Reveal case on it the whole time. The back of that case is scratched, but my phone remains flawless. I work in dirty construction environments and have sat it down on top of blueprints half covered in sawdust, sandblasting residue, etc. This crap ends up in my pockets as well with me constantly pulling it out and then replacing it inside my pocket.

Seriously....its flawless. I really don't know what people are doing with theirs to scratch it.

I can post a pic of the back when I get home which has a couple deep scratches in the glass...the scratches on the front seem to be in th coating since I can't feel them with my finger and probably won't show up in pictures.

Just enjoy the damn phone already!

You are not going to look at in a display case for the next 10 years. I hate OCD folks who whine about a "wittle scwatch" on their arm. Oww! That hurts. Bunch of pansies. Meow!

Man up, son. Man up.

Phones aren't like fine china. Sounds boring if that was the case. They shouldn't be treated like a mint condition Ty Cobb baseball card to look all day until you die. Use it to make your life more productive.

Mine has a few scratches too and I'm very careful with it. I never have anything in my pocket besides the phone. I'm sure it's just because it sits directly on the glass when you put it down. I picked up a cheap $2 case on ebay that'll work just fine until the free one from Apple arrives.

My iPhone 4 has more scratches after 3 weeks than my 3GS had in a year...and that's with my 3GS sliding across pavement screen down a few times.

It's a new revolutionary glass its 30x harder/stronger than plastic.
This glass changes everything all over again.
It has never been done before.
Were going to do it better than anyone else.
We at Apple love our users.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Mind if i scratch up your car? Scratch up your TV? Scratch up your house siding?

You Apple fanboys are getting ridiculous

I slid my macbook pro over my iphone 4 screen.

Me thinking metal+glass ->lot's o scratches.

but to my surprise, not even 1 tiny scratch.

iPhone 4 is still perfect.

Good enough for me.
