Spoken like a true photographer. :) For most landscape type of photos I have my DSLR on a tripod with the mirror locked up and a remote shutter, so I'm always trying to be as still as possible for the cleanest shot I can get. I get that the iPhone's sensor is still a ways off from the SLR but I have to admit it's getting pretty good.

I have a 40x30 of San Francisco on my wall from the 12MP camera on my new 6S Plus and lens aside, it competes pretty well with my older 6MP Canon DSLR.
Haha I'm not even a photographer but I have great interest in it, mostly as a hobby :p

Anyway yeah, iPhone cameras, heck, all smartphone cameras have come a very long way! Quite shocking, looking back even a few years ago. The photo I shared wasn't even taken on an iPhone 6S, but a regular iPhone 6.

Or you know, you are just used to taking it one way which is by habit.

it is based on the way you keep a small device in your hands. when we are talking about items like phones, i keep my fingers around the corners when taking a photo. i shouldnt have to pay attention to it, but with iphone i have to. if you turn your iphone on a way that the cam is in the lower corner (home button on the left) you will block the cam by your right hand. you always have to think about which corner the cam is. and it shouldnt be like this. basicly you should always turn it on the way that the home button is on the right. even then you need to control your left hand fingers other than the thumb and index finger. not a very practical solution especially if you have only couple of seconds time to take the pic..

and this is the first thing i noticed with iphone althought i was already used to it with ipad.

couple examples:

this is the way most of us probably keep a phone in our hands, placing the fingers around the corners:

look how the dude needs to lift his fingers not to block the lens. this is the first thing i noticed when i was taking the first pic:

placing your hands like this (anyone?), you need to keep in your mind that the cam is in the left upper corner (uhm.. in which corner the cam was again?):

i think that this is one thing apple didnt pay attention or they didnt bother to place the cam again. dont know, but it doesnt feel right. it is a little annoying feature.

With home button on right in landscape mode the lens is always in upper left. At least every time I checked it is. Hold phone with thumb on bezel left and right forefingers on back. Fingers never cover the camera lense and right thumb being on home button you are set for shudder release. Might feel different at first, but get used to it rapidly. Added feature phone is held more tightly, less chance of getting bumped out of hands. Holding on edges is simply holding it wrong. That's my experience and opinion.

At the same time, with Apple making the volume buttons activate the shutter as well, in a sense they are implying that landscape orientation means that the volume buttons are on the top right (either the camera being on the bottom right in that case).

I've Never had an issue taking pictures of my fingers with any iPhone I've ever used.

This is a #firstworldproblem

Its better imo. If i hold the camera landscape with the home button on my right hand my left hand can rest under the lens without blocking... Just what i like about it over my galaxy s6

Also iphone had this since the original so they wanna keep the look and trademark of the design like that i guess so people are always familiar of the structural design of the phone itself. If they moved it to middle i think it may cause some issues. Because people are so accustom and used to it being there
