Because it focuses on the user experience first. Hardware and features are secondary. Hardware serves the user experience. Apple releases new features once the UI is ready and it adds to the overall experience.

Contrast this to most other companies were the user experience serves to exploit the latest hardware.
They releases new features once the hardware is ready, and clean up the UI later.

The iPhone is an outstanding product. I don't care if you're the biggest techno nerd in the entire solar system that has to have the first quad-core smartphone.. You can't argue that the iPhone is a work of art. The problem I have is when people review EVERY new Android phone with over a year old iPhone and mock it because their new phone is better. It's like comparing :apple:'s to oranges.

I have a Galaxy S2, but I can tell you from having been an iphone user that the iphone is one of the wonders of the World.

No matter how how many dual or quad core processors they out on android devices, the software in IOs is simple superior in every aspect.

You said it yourself. It's a TEAM of people. Some could argue Steve Jobs because he is CEO and has final say over everything that goes on. You could say Jonny Ives because of the beautiful designs. You could say the marketing team. You could say the iOS team.

The better question is WHAT makes the iPhone successful, not WHO.

And my answer to that is a number of things.

-Ease of use
-The Apple name
-Sleekness
-Marketing
-Apps
-Beauty
-Functionality
-Ecosystem
-Apple Stores
-Other products Apple sells
-The team within Apple

+1

I've seen all college teens getting iPods, iPad, etc just because its Apple.

Minimalist styling, powerful sleek hardware, easy to use interface. enough said.

The iPhone is so popular because its like the GT-R of the phone market while Android devices are like General Motors :p

The fact is that brand loyalty is the result of producing good products.

I have read and joined the speculation, over the last few weeks about the next iPhone,
But who would you say is the person within Apple why these phones are so popular? I understand its a team effort but if you had to put the success with one person who would you choose?

Steve Jobs

and because they re-invented the phone,

phones were a piece of trash back in the day
