Its' pretty clear that Apple likes to start apps on one platform (Sports is another recent example; Freeform another), often iPhone (since they sell so many more of them than anything else) and then eventually move to other platforms.

Of course there are third-party journaling apps (DayOne is one) that work fine on iPad and MacOS and which also integrate with Apple's Journaling app/API on iPhone. So you can at least do it on iPad or Mac if you wish.

Sometimes I wish I had Journal on my MacBook Air, too. I have a feeling it will come at some point. I have no answer why it hasn’t already occurred.
They have it grouped with all the other Health features -- zero of which unfortunately are available on the Mac.

I find it quite irritating, as I've got a growing trove of data in Health, but the only way I can interact with it is through the tiny screen of my phone. I have a feeling it has something to do with keeping Health data within the more "locked down" iOS -- although that doesn't quite explain why it's not available on iPad.

Journal is closed and worthless, for me, without having sync to a Mac/iPad etc.. I'm not sure why Apple's thinking this way. Interesting tho, that journaling suggestions work just fine for other apps.. glad Apple didn't make that a closed system

On lives Day One, for those who prefer a digital journaling solution!

I've since moved on to a reMarkable tablet for my journaling. It is probably one of my favorite devices of ALL TIME, absolutely love the reMarkable =)

Exactly for that reason - and yet another proprietary Apple app that doesn't communicate / sync with anything outside the environment - that it was one of the first things I uninstalled when it became available.

This is another app that absolutely belongs on a home device like the Mac or the iPad. If you want to put some thought into your journaling, you don’t usually do it while you are out and about. Just like the Health app that finally came to the iPad. It’s something that you want to attend to when you’re at home and not out around people that you may not want to see what you are writing. I don’t know what Apple is thinking about, but the phone is for stuff you do when you’re not at home.

Not having the Journal app on the iPad and Mac is the reason why I'm not using it. I started trying to use it for a few weeks and then gave up. It's just too annoying to use on the iPhone. And no, I won't be paying for something like Day One, as journaling is not important enough to me to justify paying a subscription.

If you only want to use it on one device (Mac, iPhone, or iPad), DayOne is free.

I journal regularly. I was fine with it being iPhone only when I was using my iPhone with a Bluetooth keyboard, or mirroring it to my MacBook. Unfortunately, I moved pretty much all of my iPhone and MacBook uses to my new iPad. The native Journal app is just one thing I can’t use with it anymore. My current workaround is writing in the notes app on my iPad, then just copy/pasting it to the Journal app on my iPhone. This work around is ridiculous and pretty upsetting to me. Journal is a pretty basic app, I can’t understand why I can’t use it on anything else.

I've been playing around with Day One and other journal apps in the meantime, but will probably continue doing this method at least until this next WWDC to see if Journal is coming to the other platforms. Almost two years after launch, my expectations are low. I just see this as another iPad weather or calculator app situation.
