It runs OS X. Not only is it more secure and stable than Windows, but it also has better power management.

Better power management? Yes.

More stable than Windows 7? Hell no.

The only BSODs i have seen in windows for years have been hardware-failure related, or cheap crappy hardware/driver related. Put windows on decent hardware (with MS-blessed signed drivers), and it is 100% solid.

My MBP, running Lion, occasionally has to be force re-started due to the keyboard not working properly after some apps, or finder beachballing forever. My hardware is fine, but Lion is not.

I've had no such issues of that nature with windows since Windows 2000.

OS X is great, don't get me wrong (and I prefer running it to windows for a variety of other reasons), but the "windows is unstable!" crap went out the door with Windows 98 about 12 years ago. Flogging that dead horse just makes you look like a fanboi.

I find OS X to be more stable 'feeling' than Windows. I don't know.

Windows feels like a cobbled together afterthought and will crash, but maybe that's just burnt into my psych after using Windows 98 for so long. :D :

Having said that, Windows is great, and a LOT of programs are optimized for it.

Mind you, Tablet PC is built into Win 7, and is a very useful appendage.

OS X is almost like a childs toy in comparison. But it's more stable IMHO.

Macs are about hardware? Are you sure? My friends ASUS with the same price as my 13" bought during the same time is better in hardware quality. I think Mac is about the software. OSX is just amazing. Its revolutionary. Apple's hardware for computeres? So so.

Maybe youre right about the batt capacity and track pad and weight, and soon enough, thunderbolt is coming to all ivy bridge laptops!

What Asus are you talking about.

I have yet to see a Windows PC in a lightweight slim aluminum unibody.

I've seen lotsa plasticy heavy laptop PCs with generic power supplies. I've seen some redisgned Windows laptops with an aluminum or aluminum look cover and then plastic backs and sides.

I've seen Laptop PCs with horrible trackpads and chintzy non backlit keyboards.

Evidently, I haven't seen this Asus you mention. Please send me a link.

In all honesty the only PC Laptop I've seen that comes near the MBP in terms of design, fit and finish quality is the Envy and discontinued Dell Adamo. And neither of those balance battery life and power as well as the MBP.

I would have been happy to buy a Windows laptop if there was one Windows box maker who could make a laptop of equal or greater quality to a MBP. OSX SL is imo the icing on the cake and a great OS. Frankly though, I though XP while not pretty was a very solid and functional OS as well

I have a Samsung series 9, 13" laptop (last version). It's pretty good (and cheap used). It's very similar to my Macbook Air 13". Funny thing is that on Amazon, a lot of people are complaining about the tack pad. THe problem as I see it, is that quite a few of these Windows Trackpad makers have a huge variety of strange options that if set as default can make them act up. You have to turn everything off at first then add the options (like edge motion, suppression, etc). If you do this it's pretty good, not quite as good as the Apple trackpad, but good enough with all of the nice gestures that Apple has.

A few nice things about the Samsung are a true Gigabit ethernet (the reason I use it) and USB 3, which is refreshing after using the Macbook Air. Apple has all their eggs in one basket, and the basket is empty.

But I still prefer the Apple stuff of course :)

note: The new version of the series 9 has improved it seems. I will look at this when the Ivy stuff hits the street. Ain't cheap though :(

When you said hardware in your previous post i figured you were talking about the hardware as in the MBP as a piece of hardware as opposed to its software OS.

We're on the same page it seems there was just a misunderstanding. I hope were all good now

I will say I'm disappointed there's no Super Asus laptop.

Its all good, if you read back, youre the second person to misunderstood my meaning. Since when did hardware became design and build quality?
The last time i talked about computers and mention the word hardware, everybody understood it as what makes a computer work aka the brain and other parts to make it function properly not what the computer is covered with.

Hi there,

Do you trade full time from a 13" screen? Do you find you get enough candles in view to determine the trend without having to zoom in and out all the time?

I currently trade forex end of day from my iMac and only half a dozen trades per month, but as soon as I leave the Air Force, I intend to concentrate on trading as my primary income source. I don't fill my screen with indicators, just concentrate on price action, drawing the odd S&R line on the chart.

Cheers

Personally, now, Windows and OSX are pretty close. I love Win7, hated f'n Vista. I primarily bought the MBP's b/c I like the aluminum feel, the touchpad and the longer battery life, and the backlit key's which not many were doing when I got the 13". But the Windows laptops have made great strides, you have some incorporating aluminum/metal now, batteries have gotten better and some are fairly close/even with the MBPs in actual use, multi-touch trackpads have gotten better and again extremely close to Apples now.

But I love being able to run OSX and Windows 7 at the same time, there are always things I prefer more in Windows. I.E. I trade, mainly forex, and something about the platforms on OSX I hate. if I'm not around my desktop I'll open Win7 and metatrader.

Desktops though, PC all the way especially for the way I have my media and home theater setup and streaming.

No, I have a 15" Pro also and then nice home and office PC desktop setups. If I'm not around the desktops or traveling etc, it's fine on the 13", obviously nothing like larger multiple screens where I can have each screen specified to something. but it's fine. I'd go with the 15" Pro with high res antiglare if I were you though, larger and much nicer screen with less eye strain after awhile b/c there's no reflections like on the stupid 13" glass lol. If your going to be concentrating or on the screen for awhile, go high res antiglare on a 15/17.

For me I would say the build quality of the computer is much better than a Dell, HP, or any of PC manufacture. When you pick the computer up it feels like it is made of high quality parts. Not just plastic. Plus it looks like a piece of art.

The screen is one of the best screens on the market. Considering you look at the screen 100% of the time, having a nice screen is important to me. The keys are very nice to type on and the touch pad is very well done.

OSX is not as great as the last poster said. I personally don't own a MBP for OSX. I run windows 7 on mine. :)

Same thing here but when 7 no longer is supported I will eventually maybe switch to Mac OSX. I get about 3 1/2 hours of battery life on Windows, everything works great on it :) Only thing I wish is that Apple gets off there high horse and release better Bootcamp drivers and allow the use of both GPU's on the Windows side.

Because it makes you a pro porn watcher (at least until the fans are starting to make an airplane noise, then I don't want to watch it anymore).
