Why is there a big "?" on my Finder toolbar?

I don't remember it being like this and if you click on it, it says the item cannot be found.

Ideas?

It is an alias to something that got deleted. Say you put an app in there and later deleted it. That is what will happen.

It means you have moved that item and the dock icon no longer can find it

To answer the unasked question: Hold down the Command key and drag it off your toolbar to remove it.
