Are you using gmail by chance? When I delete my yahoo email i get the option to delete but when I go into my gmail inbox I can only archive it....figured it was just a gmail thing

It's a gmail thing. They are collecting every ounce of information they can.

You can change this in Settings. It is either swipe to delete or swipe to archive.

Go to settings, mail, gmail account, turn the bottom switch to off "archive messages"

Then you can swipe to delete. If you want to save a message, go into the email and click the file box at the bottom to archive into all mail.

Many thanks! I had this same problem for awhile. I couldn't even figure out what it was that replaced the trashcan or what it did. Therefore, I had to manually move each email to the trash folder. What a pain. Can't believe I went so long doing this with such a simple fix possible.

No such setting when you sync through Exchange though. 🙁
