What I mean is that if they rebranded, the existing, so-called long-term and established users would almost certainly stay on the site, while new users would simply discover the site under its new name anyway. Changing the name wouldn’t hurt anything in this case. Quite the opposite, actually, I’d argue that when the average person is looking for a place to discuss something Apple-related, MacRumors isn’t exactly the most appealing name if you don’t already know what this site is about.

Macrumors sounds like computer nerd website if you hear it first time. Not a great first impression.

I suppose it sounded pretty good in 2000 when the website was founded. Given that the business can support Kim's lifestyle and 10 full time employees today, I imagine Kim saw no need to change the name - despite your claim of it not being named well.

It is extremely obsessive, pedantic, arrogant, argumentative and, above all, very very nerdy.
Rebranding the site as “cool” makes no sense, as people arguing about the relative radius of rounded corners on windows for months at a time is not very “cool” at all.
Outside of echo-chambers, the granular details of consumer tech is not cool. It is nerdy. The only person who will have any interest is another nerd.
It’s a bit like saying “Jeremy Clarkson should dress more fashionably to appeal to a wider GenZ audience.”
There is a lot that’s less than perfect on MR, but they really do know exactly who their audience is.

It's a message board filled with people having often fatally pedantic discussions about a specific brand of commoditized consumer electronics, sometimes using the sort of over-wrought emotional investment saved for political or religious debate. "Nerdy" is not nearly strong enough of a word to describe how off-the-bell-curve a place like this is.
Which is not at all a criticism—among the internet's most useful roles is to concentrate engagement. That makes MacRumors a great source of information for those who need it. But to pretend engaging here represents normal behavior among Apple's hundreds of millions of customers is not realistic. Worrying about the brand appeal is somewhere below "I hope the staff is eating enough cheese" on the Official MacRumors Scale Of Concern™.
Forums will soon be dead all over the internet sadly 🙁 I hope not though.
They are going the way of the dinosaur.

I've been trying to look for alternatives to reddit for years. I don't want to go to reddit, but it seems like the only place that you can talk about Niche things. I hate that the forum system is from a bygone era because I still, more or less, enjoy it. Even on these boards the activity in the IOS forums are not all that great. Most of the activity is usually in the news forum.

Because Samsung, my S26 ultras (yes plural, I have 4 of them, one I plan to sell) have cameras that are Way better than what the iphones have to offer. I have the iphone 17 pro max also, & the cameras on it are ok. As others have mentioned, there are mixed users here.
Photography is a big part of the forum discussion. There is also a photography forum for all cameras on Mac Rumors . Did you happen to ask why that forum exists as well?
