Ok, so I ordered some stuff off of the internet close to two weeks ago.

I was tracking it this morning just to see how close it was from getting to me.

Now I live around Cedar City, Utah, which is about 45 minutes north of Saint George, and about 4 hours south of Salt Lake City.

The question I guess I am asking is why does it have to go all the way up to SLC only to come back down to where I am?

SLC is a shipping hub most likely. Would make sense for it to be...

There are entire courses devoted to the shipping hub business model. Suffice to say, they are losing money on your parcel, but making money on countless others. It is far more efficient to bring all packages to a hub, separate, combine destinations and mail as required.
