Why isn't the ipad or iPhone multitouch?

With apple releasing the 'magic' trackpad it got me thinking.

Apple are pushing the idea of multitouch (so much so they've run out of fingers now having to give us a choice of three-finger gestures) but why is iOS still only dual touch? When will they introduce multitouch?
