Unlike many I actually love the new keyboards on the latest MBP's. However one thing bothers me: How loud it is typing on it.

Is this intentional by Apple? Or why?

I so hope they make the typing much quieter asap on the next MBP updates.

Once I learned to type more lightly it was not very loud. Just takes some time to get used to with how short the throw is and how little force is required compared to a normal keyboard.

Never had a mechanical gaming keyboard, have you?

My corsair K90 would wake my neighbors it seemed like! HAH

I've got a Ducky Shine 3 mechanical with blue switches (which I'm typing on right now), so the keyboard on my 2016 MacBook Pro is almost quiet by comparison.

But, yeah, it can be pretty loud if you really start hammering away on it in a quiet setting. I think without that clicky sound though the keyboard wouldn't be nearly as nice to type on. Something about that crisp little click seems to help convince my brain that the ridiculously short key travel is just fine.

I was very iffy on the new design at first, but now I much prefer it. I still have my 2013 rMBP and whenever I use it now the keys feel sort of loose and mushy to me.

The one downside is that the keys are so low profile the tiniest little thing getting under the keys can foul them up.

It's especially difficult when you learned to type on a manual typewriter! But I wondered why it was so loud too. I will try to hit the keys more lightly. If that doesn't work I'll just learn to get used to the noise. ;-)

It is quite loud, noticeably louder than the rMB, I'm going to feel quite conscious of it when using it in public.

Yes, obviously it's intentional.
Everything in your laptop is intentional.
It's there because the keyboard has next to no feeling or travel at all so you gotta have some feedback.....lol
They made the keyboard all about audio.
They made something that's supposed to be a physical sensation into an auditory sensation.
Oh and then they were surprised when 100% of the people didn't bite and just love it because it's the latest invention...so therefore it's gotta be the best.
Gotta love Apple.

Or... it could be that the increase in internal speaker performance is down to the laptop having resonance chambers inside - just listen to how 'hollow' the whole laptop sounds when you play music through the speakers. The unfortunate compromise of this is that the sound of the key clicks is also magnified.

Everything in a laptop is a compromise, that might just be one.

The apple bashing on MR never ceases to amaze.

This is why my son’s Razer mechanical keyboard uses the Orange series switches. The green series switches make the old IBM “perfect for self defense” keyboards seem super quiet.
