I dont understand why Apple is asking us to buy BOTH Magic mouse and Trackpad at the same time even if they almost provides the same functionalities.

I 'm trying to choose the option without Magic mosue but Trackpad only with some discount. But there is none.

One more question, Should I buy a new iMac now with student discount and get a free iPod touch or wait til the Back to School day with no Tax (not sure if that moment, the iPod Touch is still the promotion)?

They don't consider the trackpad a replacement to a mouse but an addition.

If you live anywhere near a state with no sales tax, buy it there. I used to buy all my computers in New Hampshire to save the sales tax.

Having both is just too much. The trackpad is a non-moveable, multi-touch enabled Magic Mouse. The Mouse is a simpler, moveable trackpad.

IMO, the Magic Mouse is the best bet for both desktops and portables.

Where are they asking you to buy both?

The trackpad is for people who like trackpads, the mouse is for people that like mice....

So the Trackpad is for the desktop user and Magic mouse is for the Macbook/Pro user?

My Question is Why every iMac comes with the Magic mouse but not Trackpad ?

I saw this too and I think it's rather dumb.

The iMac should come with a choice of:

1. Magic Mouse
2. Magic Trackpad
3. Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad
4. (regular) Apple Mouse

Maybe they want to see how it sells first before making it a full-on mouse replacement. I know that it's replacing my mouse though, so I hope others follow suit.

The mouse and the trackpad should be the same peripheral. Apple should make a mouse that let's us use the top surface of the mouse as a fully function trackpad.
