My MBP has a scratch from the very top of the aluminum case (on the inside) down an inch on the screen. I noticed it as soon as I opened the package. Bring it back, eh? Will they accept it or say, "you scratched it."

Sure, they're probably going to try to blame you, but if you honestly received it in that condition, don't back down. Be polite but firm and explain the situation and that you realize these things can happen (even though they shouldn't), but that you paid $x000 dollars for it, and this is unacceptable.

So this is on the front of the screen, and not the aluminum on the back, correct? I think they would fix that, rather than dismiss it as a "cosmetic issue" like they probably would if it was down the back (depending on depth).
Yup yup. I wonder if they will let me do an in-store exchange. Sending it back my make me think differently.
You posted a thread about receiving it yesterday at 9:34am about having some trouble hooking up an external drive to your newly arrived MBP. So did you open the package at 6PM ish?
I mean if I saw that scratch, I wouldn't bother booting it, trying to hook up an external drive and going through all that registration stuff, etc.
Yea it does suck that your case/screen got scratched, but don't blame it on apple =/
