When I bought my 1st generation 11" iPadPro, ONLY usb-C Mophi Cables would charge the device. I tried all my cables at home, and had to go to the Apple Store to find out why none of my usb-C cables worked w the iPadPro. The guy at Apple Store said to me:"Oh, yes, you need a usb-C Mophi cable for the 11" iPadPro." I said, "Why?" He said, "Oh high speed".

A year and a half later my 9 ft. bedroom Mophi cable isn't connecting anymore, nor are my hi-speed Anker usb-C cables working. Even two brand new 10ft Anker usb-C cables do not give me a "beep" nor charge the device. So I am sending for 2 Mophi usb-C cables.

But why do I have to buy MOPHI? Does anyone understand why? Anker says its compatible, but still does not work.

Hmm, are you using the same AC wall adapter with all the cables that don’t work?

The ipadpro specs call for 18W charger. For a year and half to 2 years i have used my 19,1 imac, 18W charger, & 30W charger w no issues, moving the ipadpro between them. Today the only charging i am capable is w a Mophi usb-c to usb 3.0 type A. My 3 meter Mophi usb-C to usb-C does not “beep” the ipadpro any longer, must be worn out. I use it every day and nitetime. Guess all the plugging/unplugging wore out a Mophi and Anker cables.

More likely it’s the USB port on the iPad that is the culprit rather than all the different cables, especially if different AC adapters have been used with identical results.

Ive got two mophie cables coming friday, if it isnt the cables , i agree, i must be the cable port. Thank you for responding. I still want to know why Apple insists on Mophi cables. What makes Mophi so special?

Weird! my old Mophie 1 meter USB 3.0 type A to USB-C is the only cable that works.
The two new 3m Mophie cables w new 30W chargers each, do not work. I wish they made the iPadPro cable connector plug better quality. This is the second iPadPro to be replaced from plug wear. I don't advise anyone to buy an iPad Pro without AppleCare.

Mophie cables are a "Reliable" way to connect iPad USB-C to a USB-A port. Typically needed for syncing/data transfer but also can be useful for charging the iPad from USB-A. Mophie isn't the only brand that works, but they're reliable... not all USB-A to USB-C cables behave in the same way.

The USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the iPad, should certainly do a fine job of charging from an Apple USB-C charger of 18W or higher. Charging it from a Mac with USB-C would "Probably" work too, Apple's support article just says "If your Mac or PC doesn’t provide enough power to charge iPad, a Not Charging message appears in the status bar." So even if it doesn't charge it should recognize the connection, not ignore it.

Are your 30W USB-C chargers from Apple, or 3rd party? I've heard of problems charging with some 3rd party chargers lately; e.g. Anker, Belkin, etc.

2 - 30W chargers, 2 - 3meter 100W Mophie cables, You have not told me what I wanted to know. Why Mophie, you know when I plug my iPadPro w the New 100W Mophie+New 30W Anker charger, nothing happens on the screen. No BEEP, No ICONS for charging or connect, Nothing. Apple Tech told me to get the 100W cords. But nothing Zero Zip happens when I plug into the iPadPro.

The only thing that works is one meter Mophi USB to USB-C into my iMac.

There's nothing particularly or intentionally special about the Mophie cables. There's a problem with the USB-C port on some iPad Pros. It's a hardware issue that can be circumvented by using cables that allow it to overcome the issue. Since Apple is not forthcoming with information on the topic, there has been speculation about shielding and/or resistance... but no one is certain except that it is hardware.

You've done the standard problem isolation/identification steps. If your USB-C cables work with other devices but not with the iPad Pro then you know it's the iPad that is the issue.

Apple grudgingly will acknowledge problems where the root cause is software (that can be updated), but will only acknowledge problems where the root cause is hardware when legal action is threatened. The first few generations of the larger than 9.7 iPad Pros suffered from "touch disease" that would result in the touchscreen being unresponsive. I ended up getting rid of my 12.9 Pro in the early stages of the disease.

You are correct about iPadPro plugs, they are cheap and wear out, so I recommend anyone get AppleCare w any iPadPro. If we had an easier way to charge iPadPros we would only need a cable/plug to sync ever so often. But I am constantly plugging charging cables into my first generation 11” iPad Pro (which has been replaced already,) now a second time because of the cheap plugs. Then when cables stop failing to work, I am immediately told, you got some bad cables, or chargers. This time it is so weird, of all my cables new and older, only one cable works. But I must plug into my iMac to charge the iPadPro. Or that same cable w a convertor to usb-C plugged into a new 30W charger, to wall plug works. But why only one old cable not 4 new cables works. I don’t understand these plugs. I have no complaints about my device. Its great, except the cheap plug.

With my wife's devices equipped with a Lightning port, I bought her some "classic" magsafe type cable and connectors. Worked very well. Insert the "plug" in the device, and then use cables with the matching magnetic end.

There are similar cables for usb-c:

I bought a cable w the magnetic plugs. My only issue was that the plug did not magnetize strong to the USB-C end. But maybe I expected too much for the small head. I tried using the magnetic cable in bed, and I was always knocking the cable loose. (No comments, please) Maybe I didn't give it a decent chance.
