I guess it speaks volumes that the pro is the model they hope sells as there is no Apple leather case option for the iPhone 11. Do you think it will be added later?

Doubt it, the leather case is more “premium” so has always been for the top model I guess. Like the 5S and 5C, only the 5S had leather.

The “premium” thing makes no sense. Apple still sells leather cases for the iPhone 8. Yet the iPhone 8 is cheaper than the iPhone 11.

The iPhone 11 comes in more colours and more bright “budget” colours. But you can only buy Apple silicon cases in dull “premium” black or white.

the iPhone Pros comes in fewer colours and those are not bright colours. But you can buy Apple silicon cases in more colours in bright “budget” colours.

I’m annoyed by this too as I had Apple leather case for my X. Now have the iPhone 11 (love it!!). The silicone black case is quite bulky. I’m currently using Spigen Thin fit, which is quite good. Will keep looking for that perfect one though, probably similar to the Spigen as quite like the slim fit.

I did not realize the Apple silicon cases were bulky. How does it look with the phone? What colour?

I went to Amazon and bought a few £5 cases instead of one boring £45 one direct from Apple for the 11 (white) I'm still waiting to have delivered. It is a pity, as I love my saddle brown Apple leather case which I got when I bought my 6S.

Yes saddle brown leather is my go to case as well. I think the lack of cases is one was the iPhone 11 is not getting the same attention as a typical release.

It looked fine, just too bulky for me. I have the black one. Which looks dark grey in certain lighting actually.

The Spigen I am using at the moment is very slim and adds very little bulk to the phone. Especially as it is bigger than the X. Loving my 11 now much more than I did with the Apple case on it.

Just a shame Apple hasn’t released their leather cases for iPhone 11 users. I have used only their leather cases since iPhone 6 upwards so it’s quite a change and interesting looking at third parties again. I’m hoping Incipio release their feather case for the 11 soon. Had that one for the 5 and loved it.

i'll ask the folks at my apple store if i get up there today (not that they will know). i would have to assume they will be available at some point. just a matter of when. yes, very irritating they aren't available at launch. but that seems to be a pretty common thing with apple. very limited accessories available when something new comes out. why, i don't know. i am considering a black iphone 11 and would love to get a black leather case for it.

Might have to wait a while. People are still waiting for iPhone XR silicon and leather cases.

yikes. in that case i guess it isn't going to happen. that's amazing. i'm way out of the loop because i'm still using a 6S+ and considering switching to the 11 soon. had no idea they were limiting the cases now, and to certain models.

Apple hasn't produced as colorful a range as the XR and 11 since the 5C.

I think the product managers' rationale is that they're meant to be shown off, hence the clear case. Recall that the cases it issued for the 5C had a bunch of holes, and there was no leather option for it either.

The real surprise is that 11 is offered a silicone case that the XR didn't receive, but only in black/white and not more options to fit the colorful theme.

If that’s the case (excuse the pun!) then why sell cases at Apple for the XR, including leather, from 3rd party manufacturers that are “Only at Apple”, eg the Native Union Leather? You can only buy it from an Apple Store and it’s leather. Why did the product managers think that leather case OK but not their own? There are a few other examples.

1) For Apple, it bears no risk in having to design and manufacture cases for a business case (pun not intended) it doesn't want to pursue, other than having to provide the shelf space. Yet, those third parties allow it to offer greater options for users, including leather, even if they're not Apple™ cases.

2) For the third parties, having access to such coveted shelf space confers an unofficial endorsement of those products and the company behind them, particularly when Apple doesn't offer its own first party option, as with the leather cases. In addition to any perceptive benefit, from a business perspective, it insulates the manufacturer from erosion in ASP, as Apple Stores are not discount outlets, as well as giving them exposure to a customer base that is going to be as less price sensitive, as a company such as Belkin can attest, while it successfully sells commodities such as $5 screen protectors for the princely sum of $40 in Apple's stores.

Also keep in mind that the iPhone 8 is a 2017 model, and only cheaper than the 11 by virtue of being repositioned to serve a lower price segment as per Apple's typical practice to better cover the market. It was still originally conceived and marketed as a premium product ($699/849 was not "cheap"), even if it didn't occupy the ne plus ultra position that the iPhone X did for both Apple and the broader smartphone market.

The iPhone 8 was known to be a flagship at launch. They never called it a budget device

My point is that it is the budget device NOW. Yet Apple continue to sell “pro member” Apple cases for it.

Although you could argue that at launch the iPhone X was the flagship and the iPhone 8 the budget. I certainly saw it as that.

X didn’t come out until a month later and was a “special” product. 8 and 8 Plus were still the regular “premium” devices at the time. I don’t get why Apple doesn’t make a leather case for the 11 though, seems silly.

All well and good but it just makes Apple look stupid. When my wife got her XR the guy at the Apple Store asked if she’d like a case. Her reply was “no, the coloured cases you supply are not up to Apple standard”. The guy at Apple actually agreed.

As far as the iPhone 8 goes, if you are going by price, here in the UK the XR and 11 are more expensive than the iPhone 8 was at launch.

True, although the X was shown to the world at the same time as the 8. You just had to wait a month later to get your hands on it. People also had to wait a month longer for the XR than the XS - it doesn’t mean much.

I can kind of understand not making a leather case. But not making coloured silicon cases for a colourful phone. And just offering black and white silicon. That definitely seems silly.

They serve both the iPhone 7 and 8 models. Why wouldn't Apple continue to sell them if they can continue to profit from them?

To validate some some theory based on a perceived inferiority?

Businesses don't operate in that fashion. And if they do, they don't operate for long.

You, and others may not like the decisions Apple makes, but they are not made in a vacuum, or without consideration. If you know anything about Apple as a company, it is one one to leave money on the table. EOS.

They probably weren't sold out of them as yet. I know they stop making them from last year or before that

Apples leather cases have nothing to do with “pro member”, whatever that means. It’s rather obvious. EOS
