I guess it speaks volumes that the pro is the model they hope sells as there is no Apple leather case option for the iPhone 11. Do you think it will be added later?
I’m annoyed by this too as I had Apple leather case for my X. Now have the iPhone 11 (love it!!). The silicone black case is quite bulky. I’m currently using Spigen Thin fit, which is quite good. Will keep looking for that perfect one though, probably similar to the Spigen as quite like the slim fit.
I did not realize the Apple silicon cases were bulky. How does it look with the phone? What colour?
i'll ask the folks at my apple store if i get up there today (not that they will know). i would have to assume they will be available at some point. just a matter of when. yes, very irritating they aren't available at launch. but that seems to be a pretty common thing with apple. very limited accessories available when something new comes out. why, i don't know. i am considering a black iphone 11 and would love to get a black leather case for it.
I think the product managers' rationale is that they're meant to be shown off, hence the clear case. Recall that the cases it issued for the 5C had a bunch of holes, and there was no leather option for it either.
somethings are just for pro members only
And the bottom of the range “cheap” iPhone 8 😀
If that’s the case (excuse the pun!) then why sell cases at Apple for the XR, including leather, from 3rd party manufacturers that are “Only at Apple”, eg the Native Union Leather? You can only buy it from an Apple Store and it’s leather. Why did the product managers think that leather case OK but not their own? There are a few other examples.
The iPhone 8 was known to be a flagship at launch. They never called it a budget device
X didn’t come out until a month later and was a “special” product. 8 and 8 Plus were still the regular “premium” devices at the time. I don’t get why Apple doesn’t make a leather case for the 11 though, seems silly. My point is that it is the budget device NOW. Yet Apple continue to sell “pro member” Apple cases for it.
Although you could argue that at launch the iPhone X was the flagship and the iPhone 8 the budget. I certainly saw it as that.
1) For Apple, it bears no risk in having to design and manufacture cases for a business case (pun not intended) it doesn't want to pursue, other than having to provide the shelf space. Yet, those third parties allow it to offer greater options for users, including leather, even if they're not Apple™ cases.
2) For the third parties, having access to such coveted shelf space confers an unofficial endorsement of those products and the company behind them, particularly when Apple doesn't offer its own first party option, as with the leather cases. In addition to any perceptive benefit, from a business perspective, it insulates the manufacturer from erosion in ASP, as Apple Stores are not discount outlets, as well as giving them exposure to a customer base that is going to be as less price sensitive, as a company such as Belkin can attest, while it successfully sells commodities such as $5 screen protectors for the princely sum of $40 in Apple's stores.
Also keep in mind that the iPhone 8 is a 2017 model, and only cheaper than the 11 by virtue of being repositioned to serve a lower price segment as per Apple's typical practice to better cover the market. It was still originally conceived and marketed as a premium product ($699/849 was not "cheap"), even if it didn't occupy the ne plus ultra position that the iPhone X did for both Apple and the broader smartphone market.

They serve both the iPhone 7 and 8 models. Why wouldn't Apple continue to sell them if they can continue to profit from them?
To validate some some theory based on a perceived inferiority?
Businesses don't operate in that fashion. And if they do, they don't operate for long.
You, and others may not like the decisions Apple makes, but they are not made in a vacuum, or without consideration. If you know anything about Apple as a company, it is one one to leave money on the table. EOS.
