Why no drag and drop simple option?

Why the hell can't I just drag apps or a playlist from itunes or a folder from iphoto into the iphone icon.

It would make sense. It would be simple. It would be appriciated. Yet, it doesn't let me do it.. Only lets me do some idiotic "synching" process that has 3 steps, starting with "backing up"... wtf backing up what.

Switch to manually manage and you can do it with music and stuff, just drag it to the phone in the sidebar.

Because then you'd run into issues of "dropping" things and not being able to find them. The touch interface isn't good enough to allow true drag and drop in a crowded environment like the music app.
