I could see that as a possibility - but shipping would still be into 2007. Jobs would take full advantage of a 2007 date as well at MWSF.

We'll find out more one way or the other at WWDC - expect a significant amount of time spent on Leopard. 😎

I think it will happern, or close to it, I believe 2.8 is on the cards, and with moving to a 45nm it very possible to get the higher speeds.

Intel has to make a move because amd is handing there butts to them at the moment. The AMD is a much better processor, all the bridges are in chip so that make them faster, also they cache pipelines are better setup. intel has to because they are playing catchup with AMD.

I'm sure there are many things that Steve would like to do but that doesn't mean they will always happen (G5 PowerBooks, anyone?) 😉

Don't get me wrong, those were my thoughts as well. Come out with Leopard before Microsoft releases Tiger - er, Vista 😉 and then for the icing on the cake, make Leopard run on PCs natvely. 😱 Now that would take the wind out of Microsft's sales (pun intended.) 😎

However, due to the current timelines for Vista (not saying they won't change again) and when I think Leopard will be ready, it won't happen. But, we will find out for sure or at least have a better idea come WWDC. 😎

"Business" is not some magic wand. Business could not push the G5 PowerBook forward, nor could it push the 3 GHz G5 PowerMac forward. 😎

Again, don't get me wrong, I would love to see it happen, however I am just trying to be realistic.

Nope, you're still a bit early on that one. If anything, the Intel PowerMacs could get announced at WWDC, but would have shipping dates months out from then. Even that is pushing it though. At the end of the day, Intel PowerMacs will not be in users' hands until the fall.

One of the other major reasons why this will be the case, along with what PlaceofDis and others have noted, is simply due to the timeline of Conroe and Woodcrest. Plain and simple. 😎

Clovertown will be out Q4 this yeat that is a 64bit, quad core intel chip, was slated for Q1 2007. AMD on the other hand is struggling with quad core and will like have 3 or 6 cores.

I see Clovertown in the powermac replacement and the xserve. I still believe it will clock 2.8 GHz + the itumian has been shown to run at 5Ghz at room temp with not cooling fan.

Intel has 3.8 to 4 ghz today, single core, so it all possible. they try to follow moores law

because the P4 sucks, if apple did not think so they would have used the pentium D in the imac. until the pentium M based xeon is out in autumn, it has nothing to do with pro apps.
