Did Apple not give the ultra wide lens optical image stabilization so that they can add it into next year’s iPhone and refresh and claim that they further improved the camera? I mean I don’t get it, Why didn’t they include OIS on the ultra wide lens..

Even on cameras with interchangeable lenses, ois isn’t that great on wide angles. It’s probably ba due to size constraints on the iPhone. After toying with my pro’s wide angle Camera a bit, I’ve realized it’s really only a night mode (which requires a tripod for best quality) or a daytime camera. In the dark the high iso required for the tiny aperture creates too much noise

Technically by 2x zooming out you just have half the movement of the projected object. So sharpness is „double“ and not as needed as with the normal wide angle.

But of course they want to keep something for the future to optimize and save money. Same as the missing 128GB option

Probably a cost-cutting measure. As others have said, the wider lenses get, the less they need stabilization to look sharp. The OIS barely does jack for video stabilization, most of it is software, as you can see in video taken with the new ultra wide. It's very smooth.

So all in all, it wouldn't really do too much. The ultra wide lens is mediocre optically. There's even lens distortion that for some reason, Apple doesn't fix with software. The pictures from the ultrawide have contrast and clarity turned up to extremely gritty levels - but this processing doesn't show up in video.

I’m glad it doesn’t have it. I’m going to find it most useful shooting video on an Osmo Mobile 3 and I’m hoping it prevents a lot of the jiggle that is sometimes common with OIS.

the wide angle lens is a worse sensor and no OIS

I don’t expect to use it much
I actually use it and it’s pretty awesome I just don’t understand why they didn’t give it OIS

I'm not sure if that would've saved this lens! The quality of those pics is so bad! Everything is grainy and looks extremely painted. It's probably only ok to use outside in bright light.
