I prefer to be able to remove the cover.
Regarding dropping.....it's not hard to remember not to hold it by the open cover.
Probably because that would severely hamper the use of the iPad Pro as a tablet... especially when the Apple Pencil is featured so prominently. It is not convenient to remove the iPP from such a case to use it as a tablet.I just don't understand why they didn't make this keyboard cover a keyboard case that fully protects the iPad Pro. I don't want to spend over a thousand dollars on an iPad with an exposed back. I love my iPad Air 2 with the Leather Smart Case. It's going to suck getting the "smart" keyboard cover for the Pro.
They are releasing a standard Smart Cover, too, you know.
If Apple is releasing a Smart Cover for the iPad Pro, they've forgotten to announce it, advertise it, or show it as an iPad Pro accessory on the iPad Pro page. They are releasing a standard Smart Cover, too, you know. Just like for the iPad mini 4 - a front and back cover. Yes, sold separately but there's no doubt that there will be a million third-party options to choose from, too.
The only mention of it i could find on their website is for the pencil being able to be plugged in even with the silicone caseIf Apple is releasing a Smart Cover for the iPad Pro, they've forgotten to announce it, advertise it, or show it as an iPad Pro accessory on the iPad Pro page.
Are you absolutely sure Apple is releasing a Smart Cover for the iPad Prof? If so, what evidence do you have? I have no interest in the keyboard but would definitely be interested in seeing an Apple cover sans keyboard for the iPad Pro.

No Smart Case has been announced that I've seen. Just the separate Smart Cover and silicone rear cover like for the iPad mini 4 (no leather Smart Case for the mini 4, either, at the moment). The smart cover/silicon back is not the same thing as the smart case. I really want a leather midnight blue smart case like the Air 2 has, but the smart cover doesn't come in leather. Apple only offers it in polyurethane. Not to mention that you're paying more to buy two pieces instead of just one.

Ideally, they should've produced something very similar to the Logi Blok case for the Air 2 (only a bit sleeker). They probably didn't because the immediate response would have been they Apple copied Microsoft (more than people are currently claiming).
Don't worry, 3rd party companies will produce some terrific keyboard cases.
Snap! This makes me feel much better if Apple themselves is selling a cover for the back.Absolutely.

There's a difference between a "Smart Case" and a "keyboard case" which is what you said in the post that I replied to. It hinders the use of the iPad as a tablet because since it is a CASE you could only fold the keyboard back exposing the keys. The keyboard part of the case is much thicker than the cover of a smart cover causing an overall increase in bulk when having the keyboard folded back and using it as a tablet. How would it severely hamper the use of it as a tablet? I have the Smart Case for my Air 2 and that is a tablet as well...having protection for the back of the iPad Pro wouldn't hinder it's use as a tablet in the slightest.
