I use ArchiCad and am wanting to go to the MBP. In the field I am imputing dimensions constantly use the numeric keypad on my HP. How does everyone use the Mac without this? Please let me know or give me some method that is more user friendly.

You could get an external numpad, USB or Bluetooth, to supplement for the missing numpad.
I normally have a wired Apple keyboard with me, when I need to use Avid Media Composer, for which the numpad is sometimes very helpful.

As for why it is not included, it would have put the trackpad off-center, removed speaker space and it is not used that much anyway. It is not in Apple's design language to design something like that.
