ok?? anyways, with 800k a year, why wouldnt they just buy a new computer just to stay up to date?

See the part above about people on Macforums not reflecting how normal people use computers. Most people don't care how old their computers are as long as they do the things they ask them to do in a reasonable amount of time. The only people who worry about staying up to date are people who post on online forums dedicated to tracking releases of new computers. No one else cares.

Agreed, this especially applies to the no-life geeks on MR that have to exchange their recently purchased computer for the one that was just released within 14 days after they bought theirs.
Most people just keep what they bought.

BAHAHAHAH!!!
Nobody who earns $800,000/year owns a 8.5 year old computer. She doesn't want to be able to plug in her digital camera into her computer? I bet that 8 gig hard drive is really holding up.

Actually she still has the very old "Quantex" computer. I think it has a a 20GB hard drive and I put a very old CD-RW 4x CD burner a long time ago in it that she never uses. I hope people still remember Quantex. They used to be a good computer company until they ran out of business.

She did "upgrade" from a old 19 inch CRT monitor to a newer 19 inch LCD (non-wide screen) monitor 2 years ago

She does own a digital camera but takes the SD card to Costco to get it printed out.

She drives a Lexus LS with the mark levinson stereo system and she doesn't even know she has a high end product. Well, I mean she knows what a Lexus is but she doesn't know that the stereo system was a high end upgrade that my brother-in-law ordered. There are many people like my sister who just do not care what they have as long as it still works.

hmmmm

by the way, I have had a macrumors account for 2 year and barley broke the double digit posts today, because I had a problem and came to a place where I thought it could be solved.

That's the funniest post I've read all year. Drive around in a $70,000 car and keep some worthless piece of tech chillin on your desk. Pure comedy. USB 1.1 ftw!

Fiat panda drives just as well as a Lexus....................

No doubt Macbook will be redesigned in the mid-year and my predictions it should comes with:

1. Penryn on Montevina Platform Core 2 Duo
2. Intel X4500HD (theoritically 2 fold of current X3100)
3. Brand new case (possibly aluminium)
4. 7200 rpm HD (optional)
5. 6MB L2 Cache (optional)

In Q2 2009, a year after the above release, we shall get:

1. Clarksfield (Nehalem) on Montevina Platform Quad Core
2. Dedicated Graphic / CPU+GPU (upcoming technology)
3. Still the same new case
4. 7200 rpm (standard) / Solid State Drive (affordable = price/reliability)
5. 8MB L3 Cache

Above is personal forecast.

To those who still waiting for June,
why not convince yourself to buy a MB now then upgrade to Clarksfield
about 16 months later?

I just want to point out that the X3100 was supposed to be about that much more powerful than the GMA 950 and we all know how that turned out. Worse in some situations, about the same in the rest.

I know many people that dont care when something new comes out, I work in a gated community were people's houses are all at least 800k, up to 2 mil, maybe even a little higher, they are not all driving around in brand new lexus's although they could be.

I completely disagree with your forecasts on the future and here's WHY:

The macbook has to be of lesser quality than the macbook pro to ensure that macbook pro buyers don't buy a macbook. The macbook took FOREVER to get Santa Rosa. Why? Because Apple wanted to keep macbooks and MBPs distinct. Those specs, when they become available, will go to the MBP first, not the 2nd tier macbook. Especially quad-core, SSDs, and HD encoding (which even the MBP doesn't have now)! If you do not realize this - and I am not trying to sound harsh - but you are being ignorant of that marketing logic. Those specs are not happening. Period.

Just to clear things up:

Auburndale and Clarksfield are the two Nehalem mobile processors coming out. Clarksfield is presumably coming first, and is a native quad core (there is no dual-core version). Although it has not been confirmed, we are to assume it works with the Montevina chipset, as Calpella, the chipset for Nehalem, does not debut until Summer 09. However, if it comes at the same time as Auburndale, then there is no need for Montevina support as Calpella will be out.

Auburndale is a dual-core, integrated GPU part. It will take advantage of QuickPath support on Calpella when it is released, and will bring better integrated graphics to Macbook and Macbook Air users. I don't see the need for any of these chips ending up in MBPs, as they have dedicated graphics.
