why are there only 5 pages on this forum - I remember there being many many more than that! Is there some cheat code or something that I need to enter to see the rest or have they moved somewhere!

We clean out old threads so that

1. People don't bring back half-decade-old threads about the PowerMac G3 having just come out.
2. To save space.

The upside of this is, if you don't see your question, you can make a new thread about it (search anyway)!

It's really odd - when I search for some of my old posts I can still find them (Feb 08) but page 5 (last page) only goes bck to Nov 08. If they've been cleared away how come I can still find them?

It's not about the egotisical "where have [i[my[/i] posts gone" but the possible loss of the excellent resource this place offers and they work that people put into answering questions (that I can now act on!)

Thanks for the rapid replies and hopefully you can point out where I'm going wrong!

Thanks

Miles

I think you're confusing multiple things...

When you check for the "New posts" in a forum, you only see ones that changed recently. There might be one page, or two pages, or just a few.

On the other hand, if you click on the main forum link for a forum, you should see pages for all the unarchived posts for the forum. For instance, I think before I moved this post you put it in the Mac Pro forum. That forum currently has 233 pages, dating back to about 2005 (the older posts are either archived or were not differentiated into "pro desktop" posts in such a way that they could be tagged to the Mac Pro / PowerMac forum).

We do archive old posts, but they remain visible, and it doesn't happen anywhere near that quickly.

IF you do not see things this way, this is what you should do:

Go to User CP -> Edit Options. Scroll down to Default Thread Age Cut Off and adjust the setting to "Show All Threads" or "Use Forum Default" (this is how it should be set, but if you only see 5 pages of threads, you must have changed it inadvertently at some point).

Ah ha - you're onto the winner - I went to the CP and did as you suggested and it was indeed set to "use Forum Default". When I changed this to "show all threads" there they all were. Thanks
