On iPad and iPhone I can swipe the program up from mission control and it close the program, any reason why we can't do that on Macs?

Not every Mac has one of those either.

So I guess we can remove all gestures available for the people with track pads

That should be a feature, gesture for trackpad, like any other gesture

The iPad doesn't have to return focus to the app and ask you whether or not you want to discard or save a current document (or equivalent).

Why does the Mac have to return focus? I use my iPad to edit documents, create presentations, etc...auto save.

I particularly love that functionality to just swipe to close... sometimes it is a pain to go over each app, bring to focus just so I can click on the tiny red X

You can quit an app from the dock without bringing it back in focus

Are you sure? Open TextEdit, type anything into a new document and then try quitting TextEdit any way other than "Force Quit"
If you have unsaved changes in something then you will have to respond to the save prompt or force close the app, but for a lot of apps, you can just close them by a right click on the dock icon

The main reason I switched to a Mac is because of the user experience....AWESOME by the way!

Less clicking more doing it with gestures, etc....

Where is "Mission Control" on an iPhone or iPad? Do you mean the app switcher? Swipe up on Home screen opens app switcher/multi-tasking, which does allow a force-quit of apps (with an additional gesture) as well as simply switching between running apps.

However, there are two, different purposes for Mission Control on Mac: manage a multi-desktop/multi-display environment, and locate/bring to top a window that may be hidden behind other windows. That second part of Mission Control's mission is similar to app switcher. However, the gesture used to move a window to an alternate desktop/display is a click-and-drag-up, very similar to the swipe-up used in iOS app switcher for force-quitting an app.

There's not a way to quit an app from Mission Control - a right-click/CTRL-click on a window does not open a menu. There are no control boxes/buttons in the corners of the windows for close/minimize/full-screen. So when it comes to human interface design, the functionality you seek would have to be implemented in ways accessible to mouse and keyboard-only users as well as providing the trackpad gesture you desire.

I can see the argument for adding quit-app functionality to Mission Control, but there's also an argument for sticking to its traditional functionality.
