Jack placement on top was PERFECT. Don't what possessed them to fix something that's not broken.

All the more reason not to go to a gym.

I'm at a gym.
I'm just wearing shorts.
That's all I'm doing there.

I use the same elliptical at my local gym, will have to put it on its side. No biggie.

I've done that anyway out of fear that it will fall down. Sideways probably isn't that much/any better, but psychologically it seems less likely to topple forwards that way.

I bring an ipod nano at the gym. Small, light and clips anywhere.
Dont want anyone calling or distracting me while I work out.
Also the iphone will get in the way and im affraid I'd either drop it and break it or drop a dumbbell on it or something else and crack it.

I put mine on the side anyways as I use the elliptical and play videos... Or if you're just listening to music, put it in the cup holder, I do that too sometimes. :D

it still puzzles me why the decided to put it on the bottom next to the charging port, seriously you ignored what most people wanted and the trend big screen slim phone but decided to change the location of the head jack holly cow that should be the selling point right there, did they even mention why they decided to do this during the keynote? I don't think they talked about it just like they ignored the nano sim talk......

Will more people be using the iPhone on an elliptical or walking around?

Walking around. Where is the headphone port if you put your phone in your pocket? Near the top of the pocket.

Where does the charge go? The bottom.

When holding your phone, which edge is closest to you? The bottom.

The headphone jack on the bottom is very good.

Maybe too much waste space with they new connector :p

Guess what?
When I put it in my pocket it always goes the other way with the power button near the top of the pocket.
Does everyone use the ipod feature just while walking around?
Does everyone put the iphone in their pocket one way only?
Doubt it.

Same ellipticals at my 24hr fitness. But I'll have no issue getting a little armband or putting it on its side :)

For some reason you can't do it at mine either, I guess they don't want anyone taking pictures of women working out or something?

That and they dont want people sitting around on machines talking on the phone, texting or wasting time playing with their phone.
You're at the gym to work out, exercise and be considerate and courteous towards others there.
I see kids sitting there taking up equipment and benches talking on the phone or checking facebook while others wait for them to get up or finish so they can use it.
Pretty ignorant IMO.

Only if you intentionally turn your phone upside down before you put it in your pocket.

Of course not. But no matter what you're doing, if you hold your phone, the bottom is still closest to you.

No, but it makes no sense to turn it upside down before putting it in your pocket. Apple is made to be intuitive. The bottom is intuitive.

Where is your phone most of the time? Your pocket or your hand. The bottom makes sense for both.

thinks of genius plan.................... " Why Don;t I Put IT SIDEWAYZ" Brilliant!
