One of the apparent differences between Safari AdBlocker and Firefox' ABP is that the latter will do a much better job in webpage rendering, i.e. if it blocks ads it will move the text up/left/right instead of leave a blank space inbetween - unlike Safari AdBlocker. ABP is much nicer because it will leave no blank space in between.

For example, open these two pages:

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-briefs30-2009dec30,0,3873382.story
http://www.macworld.com/article/145102/default_browser.html

In the first one, the text has been moved to the right due to a blocked ad. Also, there is a blank space on the right again due to the blocked ad. Now if you open the same page in Firefox wth ABP, the text will be nicely put to the left and there will be no blank space on the right either.

Can sb with SafariBlock check how it will turn out when you access that page? I'm wondering if SafariBlock does any better job than Safari AdBlocker...

Looks nice Bollywood. I assume this is the element blocking you said was coming.

Your web site show 1.7.3 as most recent version. Are you almost ready to release 1.8?

Thanks for all your work on this great plugin.

yup, I have finally implemented global element blocking, site-specific is not currently supported.(hopefully in an update).

Im slowly catching up to AdBlock Plus!

Im just waiting on my translators, hopefully ill be able to release it over the weekend.

Ok, so I downloaded Safari Adblocker and now Safari freezes up as soon as it starts. I have tried to uninstall it, however, it doesn't even show up under preferences, etc. I have also tried to restart Safari AND my computer but it didn't fix the problem...neither did installing Adblocker again. Can anyone help? FYI I am also running clicktoflash and adblock but disabling these didn't help either. Not a fan of adblocker yet:mad:

I just tried it and got the same results. In fact, I had already installed SafariBlock, which was working fine. When I installed Safari AdBlocker, the SafariBlock tab disappeared from my Safari Preferences and all the ads I had blocked were showing again. As there's no uninstall package, I had to manually remove the components of Safari AdBlocker to restore Safari to its previous, fully-functioning state. I would NOT recommend Safari AdBlocker to anyone!

here you go:
Manual Uninstall script

do you have any other plugins installed?
there are known incompatibilities with SafariStand, and SafariSource

The uninstaller should be packaged with the installer. Also, if there are known incompatibilities, those should be clearly stated on the product page, to avoid negative experiences. The fact that it's incompatible with SafariStand is a deal-breaker for me, since I rely heavily on SafariStand Quick Search menu.

good point, ill package the uninstall script in the next release, and add the known incompatibilities in a readme file.

Having them in a readme file is fine, but do you have any idea how many people never read those? In addition, such things should be included on a product web page so people can make informed decisions before they download or install the product.

done, Its on the product page now.
thanks for the feedback.

Thanks to BollywoodD's quick reply and help I am a fan again of Adblocker even though I am still unable to use it at the present time. I do appreciate developers listening to their customers though :)

Ive just released v.1.8, with basic support for element blocking (site-specific rules are not currently supported, so you will need to add global rules if needed)
