If they release Text Edit for iOS, I can only hope that it's put in the App Store (free) for people to choose to install it. The only real reason I can think of for its existence is to access Text Edit documents saved in iCloud. That's no core feature of iOS.
I'd be much more interested if Text Edit was merged with / morphed into Notes, so that Notes was capable of rich text, media etc. and they'd finally have enough features to flesh out Notes.app so it could lose its awful paper texture.
