Wow. I've been to BestBuys all over and have NEVER been charged a restocking fee. In Rochester NY and NYC (family in Rochester and live in NYC) I've used a product once or twice for IT work that did not fit my needs and BsstBuy was extremely helpful in giving a full credit on a used item and even helping to find the item I need elsewhere.

Granted I hate that national chains have killed off smaller businesses I frequented, there are not many choices for tech items. TekServe in NYC or NewEgg and OWC online. About it.

The irony is that this 4.5 year old thread was resurrected for the wrong reasons.... the 'bump' was about other retailer's policies. The OP was about Apple's restocking fee policy, which MR is today reporting as being eliminated.

If the OP had waited those 4 and bit years, they could have returned the MB with no restocking fees....
:)

It depended on what you bought. They scrapped restocking fees in December: http://www.dailytech.com/Best+Buy+Drops+Restocking+Fees+/article20435.htm

Oh, and this thread is from the Bush era.:p

Uh, moving the files should be as easy as pie. And what retail store doesn't charge a restocking fee for opened/used products? Hard pressed to find one. 10% restocking fee makes perfect sense.

Best Buy. Wal Mart. So hard to find those.

Dude, who resurrected this thread?? Lol...

I bought a MacBook yesterday, but I am displeased with the functionality because the Apple sales rep deliberately lied to me that I can transfer all of my Garageband files with all the Jam Packs from my iMac G5 to the MacBook. It is not true and will not work. I tried taking it back to the Apple Store today and she said that there is a 10% restocking fee on opened computers. I said, "WHAT." I was shocked. Even if the rep lied to me, there is still a 10% restocking fee. Why does Apple have to charge a restocking fee? After all the money Apple is making from iPods, iMacs, and iTunes, Apple still needs to charge restocking fees. Only poor retailers do that. This is not fair. How come Dell doesn't. I will never buy Apple again after being so greedy and for false advertising me.

I ended up selling it on eBay for more. Basically when you buy an Apple computer, there are no returns or exchanges. Apple is now a risky brand to buy for me.

I was quite prepared to pay a 10% restocking fee on my MacBook Air, because I didnt do my homework..But alas they didnt charge me the restocking fee...I suppose its all in the attitude of the consumer or manager...

Chilling...

Horrifying...

Night of the living Thread...

If only Apple had eliminated restocking back when I bought my SantaRosa Macbook a week before Penryn came out. Restocking was still a lot less than it would have cost me to add the upgrades to my SantaRosa machine. I purchased a firewire cable and transferred everything myself 'cuz the Apple guys wanted 24 hours (or was it even longer?) to do it for me. So I briefly owned TWO macbooks long enough for me to transfer the files, wipe the old machine and take it back to the Apple store.

Ok now you guys can go back to complaining about waking up an old thread...

But wait...

There's more...

When I first noticed this thread, I assumed somebody woke it up to discuss Apple dropped restocking. That would have been a good reason. But alas, this thread woke up do to failure to look closely at post dates. Now that we've brought current news that restocking is dropped, this thread deserves to live on a bit longer... Just a bit...

Y'know, the necromancer's not getting the OP aside. Something that bugs me about forums, the hypocritical whining. If a person starts a new thread people whine about them not searching, and if a person necros an old thread, more whining. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of thing.
