Why the $100 price difference between 4GB and 8GB

the iPod nano 4GB and 8GB are only $50 different in price. The two iPhone's have identical features, but the same jump in storage, for a $100 difference. why is it so much more expensive for the same upgrade in storage????? This doesn't make sense to me unless there still is some other upgrade in the higher-end model.

Are you kidding. For the same reason the black MacBook is more, you pay for the power and extra storage. Not to mention extra cool. It's a mental thing I think.

    ???

it isn't anything like the difference between black and white macbooks....there you actually get a different color and an upgrade in storage....the iPhone is just like going from a colored nano 4GB to a black 8GB nano. The iPhone you don't even get a special color when you upgrade.... It is strictly 4 or 8GB

iPods prices are based off of other players in the marketplace, thus the $50 price difference. There has NEVER been a phone like the iPhone to hit the market, and as a result, no price to compete with (with the exception of the LG- which is about $800-$900.) Simply put, I think apple feels they can milk $100 from the iPhone and only $50 from the iPod.

    Wow, I kinda ranted :p

"milk" is an excellent term to describe it.

    thanks

that explanation makes sense....you would think that they would make something else different though but i guess if people really want more storage they don't have a choice; they just have to fork up the extra hundred

kinda sucks...maybe they'll package something extra in the box of the higher-end model

I highly doubt you'll get anything else in the package, you may not even get a case :-o. However, I'm glad that they aren't pulling a PS3 and making the two different models highly unequal by adding features- not just data.

It's all about marketing. You hook people in with the lower priced product, then you sell them the premium product when you tell them about all the extra features and how much better it works. Not quite a bait and switch, but fairly close. :p

A better question is, why no mini/micro SD slot, like most Windows Mobile devices have?

    Then you could upgrade yourself.

That would actually introduce a lot of problems, among them concerns for hacking/modding/piracy. Not to mention that it makes writing software a lot easier if you don't have to take the sudden removal or addition of data into consideration. Lastly they can charge you a lot more for 4 extra gigabytes when you cant add it yourself.

Because they can. And they are hoping that people will feel that they "NEED" to get the 8GB version.
