It's hardly a formula...making thermite is easier than making a sandwich.

Pretty much. I knew a guy who worked at a company that manufactured pressurized aluminum cylinders - their lathes produced literally tons of aluminum powder. We used to get garbage bags full of the stuff from him to play with.
 
I bet you're one of those people that supports the idiotic interrogations we all now receive at the pharmacy counter when trying to buy cold medication.
The oh-so-awesome concept that just because some people may have bad intent, must annoy the vast majority who have no such desires. :rolleyes:

Personally I'd rather live in a society where people can be trusted with simple metals! Besides the fact that there are plenty of legitimate reasons to own thermite, it's used for thermite welding, something I've done personally.

My partner has quite an interest in molecular gastronomy so we're considering purchasing some lab equipment soon as some recipes call for refluxing and very precise cooking techniques, would you ban sale of such equipment to the public just to curtail the threat of terrorism?

Why not ban amateur rocketry aswell while you're at it? Can't be trusting us lowly citizens with such dangerous materials.

Trees

It would be just as easy (easier and cheaper, actually) for me to break off a tree branch and start hitting you all over the head with it.

Somebody better report all those reckless trees growing everywhere :rolleyes:

That is the tyranny of the minority. The few ruining it for the many.
Our government LOVES minoritarianism. As a result (in addition to punitive damages abuse), we have zero tolerance laws, green left turn arrows, no turn on red lights, and a delightful abundance of nanny-state laws.

Its true, us lowly citizens are so damned stupid we NEEEEEEED the government to protect us from ourselves.
