The obsession over icons this past few months...

Just wow.

Why haven't people gone into as much detail regarding the apps and functionality of iOS 7?

Because they're excellent. :)

Aside from Notes as a whole, and the paper texture in both it and Reminders, anyway.

So, it means there must be something wrong with at least some of them. Even if not everyone sees that.

Just saying that the amount of attention over icons is disproportionate to their importance.

well people don't usually stare at the icons looking for faults in them lol, it's almost to the point of OCD

maybe. but im pretty sure the designers at apple have OCD and are extremely obsessive.

some people see those things but some not. it has probably to do with diffrent perception of reality which depends on if someone has left-hemisphere ot right-hemisphere dominance (or even cross-dominance).

but OP is right.

look at the appstore icon. it feels volumetric(?)/convex (curving out)

the itunes icon on the other hand feels flat or concave.

thats probably the reason, why some people who actually like the ios design direction, feel that something is still odd or inconsistent.

but despite the fact that i see this and few other "problems" with the new ios, i still prefer ios 7 over ios 6 by far.

at least since last year, ios 6 looked and felt like a overdesined, inconsistent piece of **** and im pretty happy with the new direction of the os (although i have some little concerns, how 3rd party apps will look/fit in ios 7 and how they transer this design to OSX).

but im optimistic :D

Well, the icons are the OS to a degree. They are what you see and touch, so I can understand the attention they receive.
Yes but the majority of users will only care if they dont like the actual colour not to the point of how it works through various shadings of that colour and does or does not include white in that shading of the icons!!

Someone tries to offer some deep insight with effort about what he thinks, and people here shun it. It's no wonder people have this stereotype about apple users. Seriously, his post was a good insight despite the fact that we are so near the release date. What he said wasn't harmful nor stupid. At least he made the effort, majority of you people just comment on posts, act like you run this sh**, behind a screen.

This makes me crave the Ars Technica style in-depth geek review and critique (as JS has done year after year for OS X.) Not the looks, but the gears behind it all..

Well, today is the day! Maybe there will be a new icon or two! :)

Steve Jobs Called Google's Vic Gundotra on a Sunday About this Icon

Here's the thing. IMO, it's a designer's job to think about all the little things. Few will notice them and even fewer will appreciate them. Apple has, in the past, been known for this type of mentality. Now it seems they've given up.

The springboard is the single most important thing on an iOS device. The icon is the first impression a user has to an app. What bothers me the most is how iOS 7 seems so anti-skeuomorphism (to a stupid degree) and yet, we have textures in the Remider and Notes app.

Never has this image been more appropriate...

Apple is a company that tailors their products to the demands of people such as those with severe obsessive compulsive disorder with regards to a desire for perfection.

I read a recent article that said Apple chose the pastel colors and shaded notification panels because they will appeal to women in the USA and Asians in all parts of the world. If there's one thing Apple is extremely good at it's target marketing. Being a bit feminine will increase sales significantly, it's a good compliment to this small phone.

Maybe if they had chosen pastel colours they would be more feminine.
iOS 7 colours are not pastels. Pastels are much softer.

Seriously? Man I wish I had this much time in my life.

Actually, I think this is nice work by OP, as an graphic design exercise. It's not like he just wrote a 10,000 subjective rant in all caps, that would be a more futile use of time.

I think the OP's middle way is better. I don't really like the overall inconsistency in the shading, especially the color tinge in the iTunes icon.

LOL, that was a funny story. Now THAT'S OCD for you...

OP, what you are saying makes no sense, ALL ios7 icons look wrong because they were made by a 7 year old. BTW, this is official and there is a report from macrumors on it.

My 90 year old grandmother who never touchec a computer was able to tell the diference, in 1 second she said: ios6 looks 3D, ios7 looks 1D (yeah, she said 1D). Apple becomes Microsoft today.

The gold phone will appeal to the girls & ladies also. It's the year of the demure pretty iPhone :)
