Stop. I never said I have seen it in person. It is clear as day on video after video the matte screen. There is no magic here. Anyone can also go to an Apple Store and see iPads and MacBook Pros with matte screens. Most people do not buy them.

And yet you’ve said that several comments here are discredited because you don’t agree with them.

If you don’t like foldables, don’t care about foldables… Then why have you posted dozens and dozens of times about a thing you don’t like or care about?
It’s like, I don’t care about the Mac Studio. I have no personal use for a Mac Studio.
But it would be absolutely silly for me to go into the Mac studio forum to blabber about how the Mac studio is useless, no one should buy one, they’re awful, they’re terrible, no included screen? No included keyboard? An overpowered chip that no one’s gonna use?
These would be ridiculous discussions, of course, just like this one.
You’re not making sense. I standby what I have said all along: people do not want and do not need a tablet when they are using a smartphone across a variety of use cases. It is a useless function for people using smartphones and the design compromises are too great. That is why I predict the Duo and products like it will be stuck in niche territory.
Because I’m actually interested in a foldable iPhone, and I’m interested in other people’s opinions on it. Actual opinions on the product, not just hunches, guesses and ridiculous arguments, like “I won’t use one, so obviously no one else will either, because I’m just like everyone else” and absolutely ridiculous comparisons to lawnmowers with wings and other nonsense.
It’s not a hunch, guess, or a ridiculous argument. And if you really think that, then you don’t need to be here. You can go into other discussions where you don’t think that.

I completely agree with you, except you forgot one very important detail; this is the first non-slab style phone Apple has made, ever. If you switched from a flip phone to an iPhone, you've basically been using the same form factor for decades at this point. The novelty alone will give it sales that it would otherwise not get.
There are almost 6 billion active mobile subscriptions globally, 70% are smartphones. 2% of a very large number is still a high number. I very much doubt the "2% of total market" figure.
It’s 2006 and smartphones have about 5-6% of the mobile phone market, and yet Steve ‘Moron’ Jobs is pouring billions into some kind of iPod phone 😂😂🤭

I have an idea, since you seem to believe so much in products like smartphones that convert into tablets, why don’t you start a business with your own money and design and make convertible laptops? It completely makes sense right?
Not only does this remind me of all of the people who piled into the discussion I started about the AVP failing, but it also reminds me of the Segway. Great book that was written that chronicles its invention and market launch. Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, and others wanted to buy in from the start. They all believed that everyone would have one.
It’s the amount of hubris that people engage in on this stuff that never stops and never ceases to amaze me.

I don’t think it’s ‘hubris’ to say that foldable iPhones might be popular, especially in a few generations. The AVP has been out, what, coming up to three years and sold what, under a million? Just in China something like 10,000,000 foldable phones were sold last year, and they are selling faster this year (just as they sold faster in 2025 than in 2024, faster in 2024 than 2023, etc).
I think it is hubris to act like some all-knowing god and belittling those who disagree.

It's probably already been posted 100 times already, but I can't wait to hear stories about people being told "You're folding it wrong" by Apple Genius Bar employees.
This phone is the new benchmark for status symbol (even if you don't care for form factor, bigger screen, compromises) So it will sell very well.
Yes it is an analogy that is correct. To me it is hubris that people think foldable phones make sense in the same way that it’s hubris thinking lawn mowers with wings make sense.

BTW, Tim Cook used a similar analogy as I. He was criticizing the Microsoft Surface during Apple’s October 2012 earnings call:
“I suppose you could design a car that flies and floats…”
As I have said, I don’t think foldables will go away, just that they will remain niche.

Isn't that what you're doing now?
On this point, I do agree. They're too expensive not to be. I reckon the iPhone Duo will do just fine in its niche but they're far from becoming mainstream anytime soon.

Foldables are only the beginning. Rollable screens are coming in the next couple of years. LG had a prototype that never launched but looked fantastic. Lenovo already sells a laptop with a rollable screen. Samsung has been working on it for awhile, too. Apple is working on perfecting a Fold while the future is rollable screens.
It'll be the same as it is now. Every other company will launch rollable phones and Apple will be 7 years behind the competition.

Can’t wait for the Rolling Phone. It will be cool to have a tube in our pockets and then you can unroll it to any size up to an iPad 11” size. A Rolling Phone Mini could he marketed as a tube of lipstick!

I think glasses are going to largely replace screens in the next decade (give or take). I don't think Apple will be 7 years behind on that front, but maybe. The AVP was the first of its kind and I think will help Apple push forward with that kind of wearable.
