Why the MacBook 2010 17" is smelly?

Hi, when I disassembled it, I found that there was strong smell seemingly coming out from the battery. I replaced it, left it unused for a few months and took it out. Again, the smell is still there. What could be other possible source of the smell?

i thought too my macbook was smelly.. then went for a shower

My guess is that the smell is coming from the battery. Are there any signs of it leaking?

Could be capacitor, battery…maybe your cat/dog pooped or peed on it…who knows
