Why the outrage on 3GS prices?

I believe the only price that will drop is the 599/699 price point. The 199/299 OR 399/499 are set in stone and are actually good prices since they have been like that since the 3G was released last year.

AT&T has a lot of issues, but I do not think that the phone/upgrade prices are a problem.

There is no reason for them to give us upgrades early without us paying an "early upgrade" fee or something like that.

There is a price for early adopting.

Now, if they can get the tethering, MMS and basic network problems/issues resolved, that would be nice!

I'm not outraged, just disappointed. I want an iPhone but it's going to be out of my reach for about 6 months at the current price.

At first I was not going to buy the new iPhone and then I checked my AT&T account and saw that I could upgrade for 399 for the 8gb 3GS and I decided to do it anyway.

Here is what it boils down to. Some will think that it is not worth it to pay the unsubsidized price, and some who won't mind paying the unsubsidized price. Personally, I agree with matttye. I want one, but am unwilling to pay the unsubsidized price. I will wait until I can get it for the lower price.

I dunno maybe because they can, i.e., supply and demand. Apple/ATT knows that people who want to upgrade from the 3G will pay the price for the new phone. I know, because I'm one of them.

I for one am not complaining about the price per se, I am complaining that there are so many rumors, many of which were started by ATT/Apple reps stating that current 3G users can upgrade after one year (July) for the $199/$299 price. I don't mind one bit paying $399 for the iPhone (and I would pay more) as long as it stays that way for EVERYONE until the date we were told which is roughly March 2010.

I suppose the exchange rate is the real culprit! 10 months ago it would have been a different story!

Sadly this argument fails when you look at when times were good for us in the UK (and actually the £ is rising well now). You'll never see a thread moaning that UK prices are lower compared to the US.

Apple is no different from anywhere else, the UK is v expensive and we mugs pay it! It's a little galling that AT&T and Apple are trying to open market share by lowering costs, and O2 are using their monopoly to raise them.

Yeah, though if you look back to page one, there's a bemused poster wondering why our monthly costs are lower. Which they are.

Though in fairness, that could be more a reflection of our progress with mobile networks than anything to do with Apple.
