I posted this thread yesterday: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/recommend-a-windows-laptop-for-my-dad-please.2324770/

Why was it moved from Alternatives to iOS to Mac Basics, Help and Buying Advice, the latter of which is directly under the Macs section of the forum?

My query in the thread is specifically directed at non-Mac users asking for recommendations for a Windows Laptop only, which is anything but Mac-related. Don't see any reason why the thread needed to be moved ?‍♂️

Probably because it is a question about laptops. Windows is a computer OS and has nothing to do with iOS, the iPhone operating system.

The section header says "non-Apple devices and OSes"

It's predominantly phone-related, but a quick scroll there shows active threads right now talking about Kindles, Galaxy Tabs, Microsoft Surface Laptops, etc. Plus there are older threads on previous pages talking about Chromebooks, Galaxy Watches, Mechanical Keyboards, etc.

There clearly seems to be no apparent iPhone or iOS-specific restriction on the content of that section. Won't make much sense anyway, since that section is inherently unrelated to Apple.

Your original post was under Apple Handhelds. It didn’t belong there. They really should have put it under Alternatives to Mac Hardware instead of Mac Buying Advice.

Fair enough, I agree that would be better suited.

But then I was just going off of the variety of posts (including Laptops) that were and still are present in the Alternatives to iOS section.

There's just an inconsistency in how that section is moderated then. That, followed up by my thread being moved to an irrelevant section, obviously doesn't make anything better. Either move all laptop threads to the Alternatives to Mac Hardware section, or don't move those threads at all.

Would be great if a mod could actually chime in here.

Thread has been moved to Alternatives to Mac Hardware
