I wonder why Apple didn't showcase the iPhone X in Apple Stores before the pre-orders started.

I pre-ordered anyway, but it would have been great to be able to see and feel the device in person, especially this one that is pretty different from previous generations.

Any thoughts?

Update: I know they never do that, but I consider the iPhone X a bit of a special case.

Eh, never been the case that I can remember. The 6 was a new form factor, as was the 5, and none of them were out. Builds suspense, and probably makes more people order for fear of losing out, rather than seeing it in the store and deciding to wait.

So you're saying that it's mainly a marketing move. You might be very right.

If you know that, then the question should be why isn’t any iPhone?

Wow, this forum has become unbelievable...

They did have the apple watch available before orders started, but I don't see them ever doing it for the iPhone

the vast majority of iPhone X buyers will have a chance at hands-on prior to purchase.

pre-order people are just a small percentage of iPhone owners.. but we like to think we're of much greater importance/consideration ;)

Really? I’m just saying that your wording of the question no doubt made people think that you were under the impression that this was something unusual for the X, hence the responses of people pointing out that it’s the norm.

I don't really know of any company that has hands on for the general public before preorders began.

Just like they have the review embargoes in place until after preorders have began.

No, they did not have the apple watch on display in stores before ordering. I remember sending an email to Tim and Angela saying how foolish of a decision this was on their part.

The only apple product I remember being able to see before it arrived was the original Apple Watch. I can’t remember if it was in stores before preorders, but it was definitely in stores before they arrived.

I think it was in stores the same day preorders went live, so a week before actual release.

I ordered both a 38mm and 42mm. I was able to cancel one after trying it on in store.

2 weeks before release day, you could make an appointment to go to a store and try them on before pre ordering.

It was after preorders started, but before launch. You could go look and try them on.

OP, it is just Apple policy to not have iPhone on the table to view before they can sell you one.

Preorder.. Means you can order it before it's released. Released... Means it's available in retail and you can go touch the display..

Steve Jobs and Tim Cook have never told is why. So none of us here can answer your question
