When I try to open my Applications folder from within Finder at the username leve, I get only a blank page. If I click on the folder and go to Get Info, and look at Sharing and Permissions I have my username as read/write and everyone else as read only. I also added Admin as read/write but that did not change things.

If I click on the Applications icon under Favorites in the sidebar, I can enter the folder just fine. Also if I enter through the drive level, I enter OK too. Only problem is if I enter from the username level.

This may not be a critical issue but it sure is irritating. Any ideas?

Because that are TWO DIFFERENT folders. The one inside your Home Directory (Macintosh HD / Users / YOU /) is third party installed, by Growl or Adobe or some other application.
The actual Applications folder accessed via your Sidebar (Favourites) is located on Macintosh HD /.

    Perfectly understandable explaination

Thank you to simsaladimbamba. I had a feeling the answer had to be pretty simple. Your answer closed the issue for me.
