Gmail does push email for the Palm Pre. Why can't apple do this for the iPhone?? I understand it's just using IMAP IDLE anyway?

I have often wondered this as well. I thought we would have it by now. I'd imagine it has something to do with Android (Google's smartphone OS) phones and wanting to keep push GMAIL exclusive to those phones.

too bad gmails push loses to tmobiles horrible service coverage. Now that the obvious point is out of the way why not make gmail push to iPhones

I would welcome Gmail push to the iPhone as well. It's puzzling that this wasn't in the phone from the start -- as well as Google contact and calendar synch.

Google Sync works for Gmail Calendar and Contacts

You can get "push" Google calendar and contacts with Google Sync.

It is very annoying we can't do it for email though. 🙁
