What am I missing, here? Why won't the "1" on Settings go away after two days?

I'm already on 5.0.1, updated via WiFi at work.

Hooked up and backed up via iTunes, and "1" is still there.

Perhaps try closing out the Settings.app from the multitasking dock and relaunching it to see if that clears it.

Clear it from multitasking, perform a soft reset, then relaunch and check for updates again.

Closed everything loading in memory, including Settings.

Launched Settings, checked for update. Says up to date.

    "1" still there.

Closed Settings out of memory again.

    Shut down iPhone.

    Restarted.

    "1" still there.

    Ran Settings.

Checked for update. Says up to date.

    "1" still there.

    Very strange!!

That is strange. Maybe try resetting the phone by holding down both the home and sleep buttons until the phone shuts off and restarts to see if that clears it.

I don't think there is. I just checked in Settings>Notifications to see if the Settings.app appeared where you could toggle badges on/off but it doesn't appear there.

lol just hide settings app on another page.
if you reset settings and network settings see if that works and then never open settings app
For some reason i never have the 1 come up in the first place and after checking for update it still didn't show up after update available

I have already tried to Reset Network Settings. I had to do that to get tethering to work again.

I'll Reset All Settings if you think, really, that it will work but it's going to be kind of annoying doing that.

I don't think it's fair to have to do that and I might go through the work day with the "1" just to make sure I don't screw something up in the middle of work.

Does it says version 5.0 or 5.0.1....it will not start the update unless you are on wifi and have 50% battery or are plugged in. The 1 will stick around until you update your phone.

I use Settings all the time, though.

Tethering on and off, for example.

    Airplane on and off.

Pushing iTunes WiFi Sync ahead of its time.

    All that stuff.

    ----------

It is on 5.0.1. The update was performed over WiFi last evening, and it was plugged in via USB to a server, and the icon showed power.

    Tried Reset All Settings.

    No go.

    "1" still there.

yeah but when your using settings your not seeing the 1 all the time
and 5.0.1 is meant to fix a security problem with app store apps that can hack your phone so maybe a good idea to update

    I have the same issue.

Proactively chose update software from settings (via WiFi). The phone updated to 5.0.1 and all was well.

When the phone rebooted after the update the settings icon now has a permanent "1" badge. Can't find any way to remove it...
I assume that if I left it alone it would have eventually polled the update servers of its own accord and let me know that the 5.0.1 update was available by badges and notifications etc.

No biggie just a bit of a pain.

are you able to go into the settings app and see what is causing the badge? There has to be some kind of indicator as to what is alerting your attention.

Some of us don't want to update to 5.0.1 because we've been advised not to if we want to jailbreak eventually. That "security problem" you refer to is one of the loopholes the jailbreak devs are using for a jailbreak.

I've never seen a badge notification on the Settings icon. When and why would these come up to begin with?
