I had saved my previous 6.1.1 shsh blobs but now I updated to 6.1.2 and want to save those blobs as well (just in case) but tiny umbrella gives me the following error: Well... I don't care about 6.1.1 SHSH anymore! I just want to save my 6.1.2 Can anyone explain why TinyUmbrella isn't saving my 6.1.2 blobs?
Thank you for the quick reply and info Grolubao I'm a newbie to shsh blobs so it helps having the community here with knowledgeable people such as yourself.
Yes, the blob saving in cydia was re-activated by Saurik Anyway, it's always good to have a local copy of your blobs
When I open Tiny Umbrella it tells me I need to update. I press okay, and that's it? It doesn't update and there's no option for me to hit that will update it. Do I just need to redownload it?
There is an app in cydia "iSHSH it"... It's one word... I think its very conveninent... Emails your blobs to you too...
You guys know that for 4S and 5, SHSH blobs don't mean much as there is no way to downgrade right now.
It's not downgrading that's the concern. What's important is having the blob if and when we have to restore the iDevice and Apple isn't signing the old iOS that is jailbreakable. If you didn't save you jailbreakable blob, you're screwed because you will have to update to the latest iOS version that may not be jailbroken after a restore.
And, my friend, that is the same concept as "downgrading". When you want to restore to 6.1 but Apple is only signing 6.1.2, then, that's technically called downgrading.
Ummm...no. You have to upgrade first in order to downgrade (unless it's the 1st firmware version for the device). By keeping the blob, you can stay on the same iOS version. An upgrade never happens so a downgrade never happens either. What does this mean? We stay on the same iOS version. The new iOS version never touches the iDevice.
Good luck to you! Even to restore to the same version (after Apple stops signing it), you need SHSH blob, which don't do squat for 4S and newer devices.
Is that why I was able to keep my jailbreak on my 4S running iOS 5.x long after Apple stopped signing for anything below 6.x? I was able to restore my 4S and keep it on 5.x (jailbroken) because I saved my blobs to my computer. I didn't update to 6.x until evasi0n was released.
5.x.x was a special case. Try doing the same now on your 4S...like going from 6.1.2 to 6.1. Or if you have 6.1, then restore to 6.1.
+1 We had the same discussion here when that happened with the 5.0 release, no downgrading, many were yelling no use for SHSH's anymore…until the Dev's came up with a new method of downgrading from 5.x. So it is wise to save the SHSH's anyway so as to have them if and when the dev's get a downgrade for 6.x Yes Cydia saves them automatically and seems a bit faster in displaying them as i now already see 6.1.2 on my devices, but having them as a local backup is good practice as well.
Also since they changed to the lightning connector they're may be a chance that another bootrom exploit will be found again so always save your blobs better to be safe then sorry
