ive an imac running yosemite, and the wife's work display screen is a mac mini running yosemite, different locations but both connected to internet by wifi.

im the only person who knows how to work it, and its very temperamental, as its a display running from through google chrome, and you can use a custom clunky app on ipad to update it but only when you are connected to the same network.

however it turns out you dont need to use the ipad as there is a cms system, which is what the ipad does, so i thought i could dial in using something and edit it from home.

i started with teamviewer, it connects perfectly, but the problem is as i havent 499 euro for a license, when you quit it, it pops up the 'thanks for using' window which spoils the display. i can instead press restart but it doesnt always open the display properly.

so surely screen sharing is the perfect solution.except it doesnt work. it doesnt connect at all, just sits there. why wouldnt it connect if teamviewer does?

Because TeamViewer is using a proprietary protocol and authentication system compared to Apple's Screen Sharing feature.

To get Screen Sharing to work across the internet, you need to have Back to My Mac set up on the Mini and your system, using the same iCloud account on both. You may also need to open a port on the router or firewall the Mini sits behind. I have not yet sorted this out for my own uses but definitely want to.

stupid me. of course with screen sharing, its the internal ip address its showing. ill try back to my mac cheers.
