It's just an asymmetrical, odd design choice. Is there a technical reason for it?

My guess would be to give the illusion of even more screen and less dark area from the cutout. 🤷🏻‍♂️
This is what I think also, of course to also indicate who has the "more premium model" but for people who love to see the numbers game it would boast a higher screen/body ratio

Because Apple is no longer consistently good at design. They are only riding on their reputation and reusing old designs with slight modifications.

Will the next generation of products be ugly monsters? We shall see.
