Thinking of getting either the 8+ or 7+. Is there any reason I wouldn't just go to the apple store to purchase? (I'm currently with AT&T)

Also, is the AppleCare worth it?? I've never needed to fix/service my other phones (knocks on wood like a maniac....)

If you never buy Apple Care it’s worth it. You would have to have horrible luck for the rest of your life to spend as much as you would on Apple Care if you buy it for every phone.

I’ve literally saved tens of thousands of dollars by not wasting money on every product I’ve been offered insurance on.

AppleCare is always worth it. Not only for the accidental damage coverage, but also priority telephone support and priority replacements if something does go wrong.
I’ve never bought it. Saved enough to buy 2 iPhone X between me and my wife. Not to mention all the other extended warranties out there I haven’t bought.

Sure, no reason not to get the phone at Apple Store. Get the sim free, so that you have flexibility down the road re: possible carrier switch/international travel, and just plug in your existing sim.

If you are buying outright or want to be on Apple upgrade program , Apple store is the place to buy it. However, you can get get significant discounts when you buy phone on installments from places like Best Buy, Target etc. Especially now with Black Friday approaching, you may get good deals. It looks that Best Buy offers $200 with activation on iPhone 8+, so monthly payment on ATT will be reduced. Look around for other deals at different retailers and you may get really good deal. So in short, buying outright, I would just go to Apple store, buying on Next, shop elsewhere for discounts. As of Apple Care, it is insurance so you have to make your own decision. It might be waste of money, but it might save you ton of money if damage your phone and it needs repair.

Ive cracked every screen on every iPhone I've owned, at least once, if not twice. This is going back to the iPhone 4. I always get AppleCare. It has saved me money no question.

My experience is contrary to yours. Of all the iPhones I have owned over the years, I have been fortunate to not have any defects and never had any accidental damage. But then again, I am also fairly cautious with my devices and how I treat them. I personally don't see any need for AppleCare for the iPhone.

If you're accident prone, Apple Care + is probably a good move. That said, I've had every iPhone since the 3G and never once had a need for Apple Care +. I did get one phone replaced a few weeks after I received it under the 1 year warrantee.

Extened warrantee programs are money makers for whoever offer them. Like insurance, the pool has enough money in to to pay for all the warranted problems plus a surplus for the company selling these "insurance" programs. While I'm not sure of the total number of iphones I had (which is 10) because my wife started getting them with I think the 4S. She only upgraded every other year so we probably had about 15 now without missing Apple Care.

Don't remember how much extened Apple Care was over this period, but I'm guessing maybe $150. That comes to around $2,250 that I didn't pay over my IP career. So, even if I took my new X and tossed it in the ocean, I could still replace it and be ahead around $1,250.

But if you're accident prone, better get Apple Care Plus, especially if you keep the phone for 2 years.

What, do you use your iPhone as a bowling ball? What do you do to those poor things? 😱

I've upgraded my phone every year since the original iPhone and haven't cracked a single screen ... I still get AC+ just for the peace of mind it gives me even though I've only had to use it once (when my 3GS snuck into the washing machine).

i get the same reaction. i've never ever cracked a phone. the only phone i ever damaged was an old samsung (feature phone) that i forgot in a pocket and went to the washing machine.
i also get the same reaction when i see people complaining about their cables. how can they destroy/rip them? i still use the first lightning charger and cable (that came with the 5S)...the other ones are still in the box 😀

What amazes me is the simplest concepts of taking care of your property is difficult for some and how its treated overall . I have never had an issue with my phone's damaging unexplainably or my cables falling apart over the years. It's just using caution with your own property, which some don't know how to do.

Never used. Been using iPhone since 2008. The only issue I had was the iPhone 6s, decided to just die after getting extremely hot. Replaced with a new at the Apple store, no question asked. But I fully insure my phones which I find it much cheaper.

Agree, and that $2K is just the money you’ve saved on iPhone insurance I imagine. People waste so much money on extended warranties instead of taking that insurance money and putting it into an interest bearing savings acccount, or investing in stock, or just blowing it on a good time. Fear is a great way to get people to part with their money.

I’ve never bought AppleCare+ for any of my iPhones or iPads. Spigen tough armor case and tempered screen protector on all the phones and Apple smart cases on the ipads have protected them well. That said, when I get my X I might break down and get AppleCare+ just because of the back of the phone. Screen replacement isn’t a big deal but, if the back cracks it sounds like the only option is replacement. I’m really careful with my devices but I also know accidents happen.

If the back cracks, a hard case would hide it, correct? Since you already use cases, I’m wondering what the difference would be.

The cables fall apart if you carry them around with you all day every day, and charge wherever and whenever you can find a power point. If you’re lucky enough to drive (and have a dock in your car), have a docking station at work, and one at home too... the cables will last. None of that applies to me though, so the cables eventually die. The Apple ones tend to last me three years each before I have to replace them.

If you are charging so much, might want to get the battery checked out. I had one cable fray, so I stopped disconnecting by pulling the cable and started pulling the plastic connector instead. That seems to have stopped the problem.
