Personally, I see nothing amusing or funny about the whole incident. As of today, Zidane's mother, Milaka, (who by the way is hospitalized and in critical health) is quoted as calling for Materazzi's balls to be chopped off. If the Italian did call Zidane "the son of a terrorist whore" not once, but thrice

Sounds like the words of a terrorist whore...

Not saying she is but...

Yes, he has had to put up with this sort of talk for his entire football career, which is why it doesn't make sense.

However, if Materazzi said something like that about my mother, and she just so happened to be dying at the time, and I was playing in the World Cup finals while she's dying in a hospital bed, AND my emotional level was really high but fragile, there's a chance that I'd do more than headbutt him. It is my last game, after all. I'd promise not to play in the next match.

I really don't think that it matters what he said. Materazzi was clearly trying to get him upset with words. The response should have been with words. All of this "I am a man" talk is just macho posturing. If someone says something you don't like either ignore them or tell them off. Just like mom used to say.

Police officers here will tell you that the murder rate is climbing because in arguements people immediately reach for their guns. Why does any disagreement/insult have to be met with physical force? And why do we accept it as normal?

<end of rant>

Maybe I should just be a Quaker.

What if mom told you different? :)

Good point, especially after Zidane's mothers comments about balls. I have this great mental image of a bald woman on her deathbed asking for balls. I hope it doesn't turn into a fetish.

Geeze it was a glorious headbutt. One of the best I've seen, couldn't believe a headbutt to the chest of a larger man could send him a-o-t.

Zidane must be as strong as an Ox.

no kidding, and hes muslim, and thats why he got mad, cuz of what Materazzi said about his (Zidene's) culture.
