whys my comp makin weird noises?

Recently when the room is quiet my MBP starts making like this weird (its not the monitor humming) but its like a quiet and gets slow then fast then slow then fast
like

just doing normal stuff like browsing internet, aim, itunes

I guess it could be the fans throttling up and down. I don't have a MBP so I don't know what the fans should sound like.

I'd install the widget iStatPro to monitor the when the fans are on and their RPM to see if this correlates with the sound.
