Hi,

is anyone here also using Ethernet only with Wi-Fi switched off most of the time?

Almost every time (but sometimes not) when I reboot my iMac, Wi-Fi is switched on and when I turn it off, the symbol is not crossed out like the Bluetooth one next to it. But this doesn't stay, somehow later that day it suddenly look as it should be again. Maybe after waking up from sleep.

I am very sure this is happening only since about 2-3 weeks or so, otherwise I would have noticed it. So it wasn't directly after updating to the first beta of macOS 15.

I had not noticed this but yes I also use Ethernet only and do not use Bluetooth and so turn them off but they were both on when I looked just now. I will keep an eye on this. It is not a big issue for me but also a bit annoying in the implication that Apple thinks it knows better than me what I want to do with them.

At the moment the symbol for turned off Wi-Fi looks normal. But simply waking the Mac from sleep and login doesn't fix the wrong displayed symbol. It just suddenly looked normal again. Maybe turning it on and off again by myself did this. But I can't remember doing this.

Bluetooth only gets turned on an update, also on iOS. But this ist happening since "forever" and might have any purpose. At least I don't think Apple can't fix this within more than 10 years or so now.

I suspect that Apple likes to try to push/lure people into using an many of it features to get tied as much as possible into its ecosystem. Both Ethernet and Bluetooth have stayed off during a sleep and waking cycle. I think it will be updates that involve Apple over riding my choices. Another one is ignoring my default browser being Firefox and opening things in Safari at times which I do find annoying.

I did the 14.6 update earlier in the week and noticed that Wi-Fi had mysteriously enabled itself. Of course the update requires a reboot, so I suspect it's the same issue.
