wifi-calling-o2.jpg

To enable Wi-Fi calling, open the Settings app, tap on General > Wi-Fi Calling, and toggle on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

Someone needs to fix this, it is Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling, just as it shows in the photo, not General

This is the only reason it was made for...

Here in Canada, I've had nothing but a poor experience with Wi-Fi calling. Callers always saying that my voice drops out, when I'm not noticing any problems at my end. Just easier to turn the feature off. Not seeing the benefit when we have Unlimited calling. I guess inside office buildings or other structures where there's wifi, but no LTE, it makes sense.

4G Calling is available in London, Slough and Leeds according to o2's coverage checker.

No, wifi calling has been available on o2 Germany for a while now. I was talking about the 2nd part of the news.

Only got this option, not 2G or 3G. Oh well

I think that's something to do with your carrier-o2 UK used to let you toggle between 2/3/4G; selecting 'off' (or Aus, in your case) lets the signal fall back to 3G (possibly 2G in an area with poor connectivity).

I was able to use wifi calling from Chile to call numbers at home in the US while I was away, all without a data plan while I was down there.

And here at home, it's great in places where there's wifi but poor cell coverage. It's a really cool feature.

Still not on Vidéotron

How do you enable wifi calling on o2 UK? I've updated my phone to iOS 10.3 and enabled it in the settings, but nothing is showing up still. Do I need to do something else?

Make sure you completely deactivate TU Go. Then it will only switch to O2WifiCall if your signal is weak.

After researching, O2 TU Go is the only WiFi Calling provider in the UK, that let you make/receive calls and make/receive SMS anywhere abroad with the same rate/allowance as you would get in the UK.

T-Mobile USA native WiFi calling can do what everything TU Go can do, but because it's native - it's better than TU Go.

I'm on GiffGaff (runs on O2) and had a carrier update - no wifi calling appeared though.

Native Wifi calling is not available for Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile or any other O2 piggyback networks just like TU Go.

So glad O2 have finally gotten round to releasing this. I've been waiting a long time.

Now if they'd just release it for the iPhone 6S...

Which carrier version is it showing for you? I'm in the Perth area and didn't see an update (on 28.3).

GiffGaff 28.3 - Maybe I missed the last update and got it yesterday

Maybe, I checked on Apple's website and doesn't seem like Giffgaff is supporting Wifi Calling (I realise they are an MVNO on O2's network) but then again my girlfriend is on Giffgaff and I get HD Audio when I call her when we are both in a 3G area.

I recently upgraded my tariff on O2 to the current promotion for 20GB data/month. Apparently, because I have an iPhone 7 O2 put me on a new version of the data package which supports the wifi calling. Unfortunately it has completely disabled visual voicemail on my iPhone. When anyone calls me the phone will ring for about 2 minutes without going to voicemail and then the network drops the call. Nice. This is same whether or not I have wifi calling turned on. I had a long session with a 'Guru' yesterday when they admitted that there is a problem with this wifi calling data bundle affecting voicemail. They are investigating and have given me a 5 working day timescale to get back to me. In the meantime they have turned off the wifi calling on the server side, but I still don't have voicemail.

When you toggle the switch in the Settings/Phone/Wi-Fi Calling to on, you should get a pop-up asking you to enable on o2 website. There you are instructed to log in to my O2. Once there you need to select the relevant device (if you have more than one number) and look at the 'Device Details' on the bottom right of the page for that device/phone number. In there you can turn on Wi-Fi calling.

Can't you change 2G/3G/4G through that option?
But anyway, I don't know. But all I know is, this announcement is for O2 UK only, not Germany. So WiFi calling is still not available for your carrier yet.

Errr, yes you can. You just need to be connected to WiFi anywhere around the world (and it will be free).

Native WiFi Calling on O2 cannot do this.

I meant that after switching to EE I could no longer use Tugo when abroad - but this is an insignificant negative point as far as I'm concerned. Native wifi calling works so much better than Tugo.

TU Go has improved over the last few years. From last year especially.

But I DO agree that if O2 carried over TUGo features to native, it would be 100x better for all of us. It's just that O2 wouldn't because they get nothing in return while spending money.

Visual Voicemail, while O2 and EE have it, others don't because it doesn't benefit them for example. VV doesn't benefit ANY network, because lack of control, same with native Wifi calling.

Native WIFI doesn't benefit O2 in the slightest, especially when they have TU Go, but when Three got native, O2 were the odd ones out so they have to finally respond.

It's selfish for the networks to think that sadly.

Just got a carrier setting update on my iPhone 6 on O2. The settings changed from O2 28.3 to 28.4, now under Phone settings I now have a toggle for Wifi Calling! The feature was previously reserved for iPhone 6s and 7 owners.

I haven't been able to confirm it working as I can't activate it via My O2 as my bill is due but it looks like O2 is now rolling the feature out to iPhones capable of supporting it.

Thanks for letting me know. Just updated my carrier settings to 28.4 as well and enabled the feature in Phone. I'd previously enabled 4G and WiFi calling via O2's website. But I have no idea if it's working or not. There's no symbol, just the standard dots then O2-UK then WiFi icon. My mother has Vodafone-WiFi appear on hers.

EDIT:

Took an hour or so 'O2 WiFiCall' now appears when connected to WiFi. Very happy and working great!
