As mentioned in the title, my Wi-Fi connection keeps dropping throughout the day. I never experienced this issue with Sonoma. However, after switching to Sequoia, my connection has become completely unstable. I’ve separated the Wi-Fi SSID into two: Sequoia 2.4G and Sequoia 5G. I connect to one, but after a while, the connection drops from one and automatically connects to the other. This pattern continues throughout the day. I’ve even tried connecting to LTE, but it also drops.

I’ve taken several steps to troubleshoot the issue:

— I’ve turned the connection to roam and assigned a unique name, but the connection still drops, and I have to manually reconnect to Wi-Fi.

— I’ve deleted all the network connection files in Library/Preferences/SystemConfig, but nothing has changed.

— I’ve changed the Private Wi-Fi address settings, but the issue persists.

— I’ve called my internet provider, and they came to my place to test the modem, cables, and signals. They couldn’t find any apparent issues.

I’m running an old iMac at home with Catalina installed, and it never disconnects from Wi-Fi.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause for this issue and provide guidance on how to track it down?

I use an app "WiFi Explorer" to see what is going on with my connections. It helps me choose a "Chanel" that is 80Mhz and the fastest.

I use a similar application. I tried all the channels one by setting a different channel every day, but the result did not change.

I have the same problem with Sequoia. Doesn't happen multiple times a day, more like once a day. But I never had this problem with any other macOS.

any vpn on the machine?
Nope

I think there will be an update today, I'm waiting for it. I just got support from Apple with Remote Connection. I've started to apply their suggestions now. If all their suggestions don't work, I'll send my MacBook to service.

For those who will encounter this problem in the future, I am adding the steps provided by Apple support here.

Network -> … -> Add service -> WiFi 2
Add Test User and test
Safe Mode
Reinstall MacOS
Erase Mac
Service

I sincerely hope it works out for you and you don't have to send your machine in.

I don't want to send it back, either. Because I use this machine for work and I don't have a spare machine. However, there are 20 days left on my warranty, so if it's a hardware problem, I need to complete all of these tests in a short time.

If your warranty is AppleCare+ you should be offered opportunity to renew monthly or annually.

Unfortunately, AppleCare+ is not available in this location. Every product you buy in my location is automatically under a 2-year warranty.

I went back to Sonoma to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue. This issue never happened with Sonoma. I updated Sequoia again last night and the problem is back. Now I need to figure out what triggered this. I'm open to all suggestions.

I had the problem prior to 15.2 but have not had it since I installed 15.2. But I have other issues with Sequoia and have been thinking about going back to Sonoma.

Sequoia is driving me crazy. If I had time, I would like to do a clean installation via USB. I think it's because of the Privacy and Security bullsh*t. We can't even use computers anymore because of the Privacy and Security bullsh*t. I'm tired of giving permissions to every piece of sh*t to get something to work.

I did a clean install via USB and reinstalling all of my applications when 15.0 was released. Since then I've done several reformats and restores from Time Machine. I'm about to the point where I'm going to go back to Sonoma. Sequoia may work for some, especially those on Apple Silicon, but on those of us with Intel Macs it's just a bridge too far.

On Apple Silicon, Sequoia also has quite a few bugs. I think no less than on Intel Macs. There is also a problem with WiFi.

I don't think it's related to silicon, but as you said, they may be blocking a lot of features for Intel, making some things harder to use.

This also applies to Apple Silicon. On my MacBook I had problems with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, delayed notifications, as well as battery life and battery drain. None of this is observed in Sonoma. Apple Intelligence and Image Playground are currently absolutely useless services that senselessly take up several gigabytes on my SSD. I think these functions will be in beta status for a long time!

I don't mind Apple is blocking some features on Intel machine. Although I do wonder why iPhone Mirroring is installed when you cannot run it on an Intel machine? Although back in about 2002 to 2005 or so I could control my Palm Pilot via my Windows machine. Of course the Palm Pilot had features for managing contacts, email, etc. that Apple's never put in to its OSs. Also, if I open Path Finder it shows an incomplete install of Image Playground. So I guess there's X amount of space wasted on my internal by Apple Intelligence that my machine will never run.

I would go to System Settings/Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi, click Advanced then under Known Networks click the ... with a circle around it next to your network and click Remove From List. Then go to System Settings/Network and click the ... at the bottom and click Set Service Order. Drag Wi-Fi to the top of the list if it's not already there, click Ok. Don't turn Wi-Fi back on yet. Restart, then turn on Wi-Fi and select your network and see if the connection stays connected.

Yes. I finally found out what the problem was. The problem is AWDL (Apple Wireless Direct Link) nonsense. I applied the suggestions in the link and the whole problem went away. I disabled AirDrop with the Terminal command. But I didn't disable Bluetooth because I need Bluetooth. I also changed PMF (Protect Management Framework) from WPA3 to WPA2-AES.

AirDrop Command

Code:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser DisableAirDrop -bool true
