Wi-Fi slowed to a crawl after uploading 17.1.1 on both iPhone and both iPads. Went from 400-500 mbps to 20-60mbps. This is Not an internal Wi-Fi problem. Disconnect iMac and Mac Book form Cable and both run on Wi-Fi no problem. Other comments on internet indicate same bugs...

What Wi-fi generation, phone modell and what frequency are you using?

iPhone 13, iPad 12.9, iPad Pro, iPhone 12 all with iOS Version 17.1.1 (Build 21B91). Also unchecked Private Wi-Fi Address, turned off VPN, Turned off all security, no change in speed. Interesting that before this upgrade everything worked great with Private IP, vpn, etc. Running 5Ghz

What if you disable the 5ghz network just as a test, see what speeds you get?
I am running 13pro on an old Asus 802.11n router on the 2.4ghz band without any issues. Don't have any VPN software installed tho.

I could do that but it does not make any sense to me. I disconnected my new iMac m3 & MacBook from the Ethernet cable and connected both top my Wi-Fi. Both acted almost identical to when they were hard wired. The issues on all four units started after installing 17.1.1.
Ducati?

Its more trying to nail down whats causing the issue. I have seen issues drivers in the past where weird behaviour appears depending on what frequency band or wi-fi gen you are using.
I wonder if Apple has patched some security issues or changed the anything on the drivers that can cause this.
I'm just guessing here but would be interesting to find out if 2.4ghz gives a better performance.

Not a Ducati but an old Triumph Speed Triple 1050, should really change the pic, its been swapped for an Aprilia Tuono :-D

I'll see if I can perform tests on my devices at home, have an AC AP laying around that I haven't installed yet.
And I am running an 11, 13pro, 14 and iPad as iOS devices, all on 17.1.1 and they all run fine. Would be interesting to find out how they work on 5ghz AC AP.

Ok, did a very quick test on my PC, iPhone 11 and 13pro.

Now, this is an old N router and the bottle neck here is the router.

2.4 Ghz I get around 60-80Mbit/s on all 3 devices
5Ghz I get around 140-160Mbit/s on all 3 devices.

Now, I'm guessing noone is that appreciates tech and speeds are running an old 802.11n router, I'm just using it cuz I'm moving houses and its a temp solution.

Most are prob using AC or AX routers which may be causing the problem.

Had the same WiFi lagging issue with my iPad Air 5th Gen. Just installed iPad OS 17.2 beta 3 and issue is gone. Speedtest is now normal. FWIW beta 3 has been stable for me. Also running Beta 3 on my iPhone 14 Pro and no issues or WiFi lagging

where did you download beta?
as stated above and here:

Apple Beta

beta.apple.com

Thanks WaywardChild. I will take a look. Will probably wait a week or two to see if 17.1.2 showers up. I am also sending Apple Support a note to ensure they are aware of this issue.
Happy Thanksgiving

Ran a speed test on my iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.1.1 on an ax (Wi-Fi 6) router and the results seem fine. I got 900 mbps down.

My iPad Pro 11 on the other hand only got 55 mbps down from the same test site. It only supports ac (Wi-Fi 5).

When I checked I found my iPad was connected to my 2.4 GHz network and 55 mbps is normal on that because of all the congestion. I have separately named 2.4 and 5 GHz networks so I switched my iPad to the 5 GHz one and tested again (closer to router) and got 633 mbps.

If you are getting low speeds, make sure you are connecting to a 5 GHz network.
